G-Force Gold 2.71 has only one Start up Particle.
Any reason why I should not drop in the 27 Start up Particles from a previous version?

It's not IMO a matter that you *shouldn't*. Welcome aboard BTW.
I may be wrong here; but Andy decided to cut it down to one for the most part to save processor space for other things (config and sprite loading especially). It may be also that he thought over twenty of them too much.
If you want to drop all the other images you have in, you certainly can. They'll be loaded just as esily as if you had a whole lot of photo sprites.
