divx / avi encoding suggestions

Post by ojedapaco »

Well, I let my serial number expire, but with a recent purchase of a divx-certified DVD player, I've become intrigued again about creating videos for my music with Darkroom.

The beautiful thing about divx (.avi) files is that you can fit a lot more of them on a DVD! However, there does not seem to be a direct path from Darkroom (when I look at the Quicktime options) to save a file as a divx or avi file.

I know I can create export several formats that I can subsequently open in quicktime to export to divx/avi (with the proper codec installed, of course), but I was hoping for a less painful and time/space consuming option. So my question is two-fold:

1. Is it possible to create divx/avi files directly from Darkroom? And if not,
2. What is the recommended outpot quicktime format from Darkroom to then convert to avi?

I will definitely update my serial # if I can find a streamlined solution!

FYI, I'm hoping to create 640 x 480s.

Cheers,

Darkroom uses Quicktime as its output engine. if you have the correct Divx codec installed it can save your movies in that format directly. For Quicktime 7, I believe you will need to download the 3ivx D4 4.5.1. I've not used it since neither of my DVD playes support the format.
