Holiday Special Edition Won't Install on Mac OS X 10.4.3

Post by Ceatlan »

I've just downloaded and tried to install the Mac OS X version of the special holiday edition of white cap, and the installer is failing with an error indicating that iTunes must not be running during the install, however it is not running.

Any suggestions.

It installed fine on my 10.4.3 system. Perhaps you need to restart or clean your chaches. You could also use Pacifist to install it.

Thanks I used pacifist and just copied the folder to the iTunes Plugin folder and it worked fine.

By the way what are these caches you talk of, I have next to no experience using Macs I'm a recent Windows convert and don't know my way around yet.

OSX is basically a UNIX operating system, and as such has daily, weekly and monthly cleaning routines that occur at 1 a.m. (or some ungodly hour when my computer isn't running). The system would normally clean out its caches — internet cache, font cache, etc—which greatly speeds up the system and avoids potential problems. Since most users don't keep their computers running all night —unike the science labs that the unix systems usually reside in—a number of thrid party applications have been produced to deal with this task. Some are freeware, some are shareware. I use a shareware product named Cocktail,

which does a dozen other things as well, and it has a "Pilot" option to run these routines at a date and time you specify.

Another such appliction is Onyx, which does many of the same things.
