Newbie: Totally LOST!

Post by tabcity »

Err. just assume I'm a brain-damaged monkey with just 3 fingers on one hand who uses sign language to communicate.

I'm totally lost.
Let's start with the simplest . . .
1. Is there a tutorial or basic instructions somewhere?

2. Is the simplest method to use the presets?
If so, I want JUST ONE waveform (Avalanch) and just ONE background image for the entire song. How do I set that?
I figure I choose Start Waveform, click a name, the hit Preset #1
Same thing for Manage Waveforms, then hit Preset #1 again.
Is that correct?

3. If and when I start playing with new source text files, how do I tell WhiteCap to use the new files? Do they show up in the menus once they are created?

Hello tabcity,

1:
http://www.soundspectrum.com/whitecap/faq.html
http://www.soundspectrum.com/whitecap/Documentation/
(Look at links under "Advanced" on the left.)

Also, config (WaveShapes, ColorSchemes, Backgrounds) and startup files are text-based files and heavily commented, so feel free to open them in any text editor for more info.

Windows: C:\Program Files\SoundSpectrum\WhiteCap\
Mac OS X: HOME/Library/Application Support/SoundSpectrum/WhiteCap/

2: You can use the graphical presets included within the on-screen menu, or (provided you're not using WMP) use scripts...

http://www.soundspectrum.com/whitecap/D ... pting.html

Though, if you wish to only have your preset display during the duration of your song, make sure you turn off Shuffling for WaveShapes, ColorSchemes, and Backgrounds. (Quick key command for turning off all shuffling = "F". Press "H" to display all hotkeys.)

3: If you are referring to creating your own configs, you need only copy your config text file into the appropriate subfolder of the WhiteCap folder listed above and restart WhiteCap. Your new configs should be added automatically.
