What's with the spam?

Post by jst1more »

Hi,
I've been a registered user of G-Force Gold since 12/2004. Since then I've received 11 emails from SoundSpectrum. The first 2 were all related directly to my becoming a new customer. The next 2 were code expiration notices.

The rest have all been since 9/22 and have all been marketing messages:

- Back to school special: 9/22/2006
- SoftSkies has been released!: 11/23/2006
- SoftSkies has been released!: 11/30/2006
- SoundSpectrum Holiday Gift Offer: 12/8/2006
- SoundSpectrum Holiday Gift Offer: 12/12/2006

And now two today about an hour apart:

- Still Time to Save on a Great Gift: 12/19/2006 3:07PM
- Still Time to Save on a Great Gift: 12/19/2006 4:26PM

Andy... what's going on? One of the key reasons we love your stuff is not just that the software is cool, but because you've always been really cool. I hope you can see that the sending out emails as frequently as GoDaddy is only going to be embarrassing for you.

I know I can just go change my communications preferences... I just hope you are open-minded to some constructive criticism: not so much email, please. Once a month maybe... once every two months would be better. Since late November it appears to be a weekly thing. Yikes!

Thx, and Merry Christmas!

Soundspectrum does not send spam. Do you have "Always show my email address" checked as "Yes" ????

If you do, that's a mistake.

Edit: I misunderstood. I thought you meant spam from other sources using Soundspectrum to send it to you. Sorry.

Thanks for the inquiry.

We do send occasional emails to our customers and free trial users (especially around the holiday purchase season) but we are very select about what we send. We do not consider our emails to be "spam" but we recognize that this term had different meanings for different people and we consequently spend a lot of time and energy designing what we believe to be appropriate emails and we also provide an "unsubscribe" link within every email we send (the email footer will also state to whom the email was sent). We do value your privacy and we have consequently never sold, rented, or otherwise provided our email lists to any third parties.

Given that you receiving multiple emails with the exact same subject line, I suspect that you must be using more than one email address to download and/or register for our products. My recommendation would be that you use only one email address with us and/or that you unsubscribe any multiple email addresses that you may have provided to us. If you write to us by email, we would be happy to fix the problem for you (just let us know what emails you have used) or you can just click on the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom the emails that you have received.

Below is a direct link to our unsubscribe page:

The key step is to see if you're getting dupes or not. See what address those emails are sent to--if they're all sent to the same address, then we definitely have a problem.

Thanks for the responses.

I verified that all emails that I receive from SoundSpectrum are to the same single address. I've never sent an email to SoundSpetrum, either as a reply or new message and haven't in any way communicated a different address for myself (other than the one I used for registering on this forum just yesterday). In fact, I never gave SS any address... the G-Force Deluxe that I have was a gift and so my buddy provided the info and that's OK.

Anyways, I know the word "spam" was overstating things a bit. I agree there are different interpretations of the word; there are also different interpretations of the word "occasional". I was speaking out regarding the recent increase in volume, not about a "existing commercial relationship" or not.

I'd actually prefer to not unsubscribe but if the messages are going to be weekly sales pitches (too frequent and not useful in any other way) then I probably will.

You guys do a fine job. Thanks for G-Force. Hope you give the email feedback some consideration.

Thx.

Hi jst1more, we have emailed you twice (directly) and have yet to receive a response. Our database records show that it sould not be impossible for you to have received the emails listed above without having two different email addresses listed within our database.

We would very much like to help you understand why you received twice as many emails as you should have, but we need for you to respond to the email we sent asking for a forward of the emails that you received. Thank you for your follow-up on this front.

Hi,
Thanks.

Once, at 7:26AM on 12/22. Sorry but this is a busy time with the holidays. I'm sure it is for you too. So, I'm not available to respond within 24 hours.

In any case I've sent you copies, including complete headers, of all emails from SS since 9/22. Hope it helps ya figure out whatever you want to figure out. There is only one address for me that is being used. But, I see you already agree:
it sould not be impossible
:)

Merry Christmas,
-j
