Themes and how they work

Post by connie »

Dear G-Force Developers, Moderators, and Users.
As I am new to this program and forum
I would like to mention what a truly amazing program G-Force is, what with it's fantastic color and movement, Its seemingly magical algorithms and scripts not to mention this forum and the support it offers, great stuff.

I do however have a small need for some information on how I could set the parameters of the stand alone toolbar and save them as a theme.

My understanding of the theme dropdown is that If I save my settings with a unique name, when I return to that unique name the standalone should look like the settings I saved, is that correct ?

FYI, I'm running
G-Force 3-1.5.6 (Platinum)
G-Force Toolbar, Version 1.0.6 (1409)
G-Force Standalone, Version 1.2.6 (1414)

On a dual 2-gig G5 Mac with 2.5 gigs of ram
and two 20" Cinema displays.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
as would any hints about the standalone
such as keyboard shortcuts and ease of operation etc.

oh one last thing when I go to full screen I get commands appearing
in the top left hand corner of the screen. Is there a way to stop this
from happening?

Thanks again
Connie

Yes, you can save a unique combination of configs with the toolbar. Next time you run it will cycle thru just the configs in your theme. However, if you want to see exactly the same screen you'd have to save it as a script by holding down shift and ctrl keys and hitting a letter key a-z. Then next run hit ctrl-X or whatever letter you selected and the same wave/flow/color will come back up.

Toolbar themes will cycle thru all allowed waves/flows/colors etc. Script are more exact and you can expand on them as well.

Thanks chkman
The script hint headed me in exactly the right direction, thanks also for the subtle way in which you directed me to read those (pesky/not so pesky) consol instructions.
BTW I checked out the script link you included, very cool
thanks again.
Connie

ps. please standby for some more dumb questions on scripts.

Connie,

You are welcome and thanks for the compliment.

There is a lot you can do with G-Force if you take the time to learn how. If you downloaded the extras from my page, check out my latest colormap chk_five58....

Dumb script question #1
Do I drag the Extras_Chkman folder into he G-force scripts folder? and
if so how do I activate the various scripts that start with a prefix other than
control? ie, Wave_CTRL O.Txt

btw one answer is uaually good for ten questions,

thanks Connie

Don't drag the folder but open the folder and select all the files and drag them into the scripts folder. The main scripts, CTRL-A etc call up the other scripts Color CTRL A, Wave CTRL A etc. Open one up in notepad or wordpad to see. Actually Logo have been changed to start CTRL 0 and then two hours later CTRL 1 etc. It will run for about 3 days. Use Shift-K to stop scripts and a CTRL key combo to start which ever one you want.

Hey chkman
very cool scripts, obviously lots of time and effort has gone into them.
DQ #2
Is it wise to keep separate copies of script folders elsewhere, as in a library of script folders?
and is it safe to say the Audio input levels are are up to me?
Also is the theme in control panel set to factory default?

Again many thanks

Connie,

Thanks, did you try the "quadrants" scripts? They are interesting and I am going to change them one of these days soon.

Yes, if you are writing your own scripts keep a backup copy separate from the scripts folder.

You can control how much G-Force responds to the music with the [ and ] keys as well as + -.

Yeah, I think so, toolbar defaults to "factory default".

Remember, Shift-K will 'kill' (stop) the scripts and "G" will get all the built-in slideshows going, tempered by your toolbar settings.

Hey chkman
I hope this doesn't use up one of my dumb script questions, how do I identify the "quadrant" scripts?

After getting these great tips from you and using the program more I have been getting into the swing of the keyboard controls.
I hadn't wised up to the G command yet, thanks

DSQ, can CTRL scripts only be named as single keyboard strokes?
ie, CTRL 1 thru Z etc.

(off topic) I have started using the Garageband keyboard to put some emphasis on the beats loads O fun.

Thanks
Connie

Hi Connie

on your keyboard look to the forward slash key \ at the top right corner . pushing that key hids the info shown in the top left corner of GF.

although it can be usefull when setting the responce scale for GF

the plus minus keys increase or decrease the responce scale of GF and the parenthesis keys effect the preamp responce scale. the higher the number the info GF will react to the music but going to high might not be to good so looking at defferent levels will determine what looks best to you.

the r key shows the frame rate the q key manually changes colormaps, the y key starts a new partical when hit and the k key stops all particals when pressed.

Hi juxtiphi
I have been working my way thru the keyboard commands.
It seems to me that I have to scroll thru some of the commands(ie R & shift L) instead of being able to go backwards is that correct?
thanks for the reply.

if you hide the osd with this key.. \ ..you can still change things with the tool bar. the toolbar has buttons abd skiders that change the current configs and speed in real time and shows the name of the config so it can be identified by the user.
