Maybe this might also allow me to use 3.5.5 in my multi-monitor situation? Since the latest version of G-Force does not like to have the visualizer window spread across multiple monitors, this would be a way to test whether this is an Open GL issue or something else. As it is, I still am running the 3.1.1 version in order to get it to work across multiple monitors.

Andy, could you be more specific about how to turn off OpenGL in 3.5.5? I don't know whether the advice to add a line to the "G-Force for JRMC pref file" is applicable for the stand-alone version.

I can say that disabling OpenGL most likely solve your multi-monitor spanning problem. However, you'll miss out on some of the fluidity of using OpenGL as well as nicer and faster overlays.

But if you want to use legacy mode, open the appropriate preferences file (C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\G-Force\ on Windows or /Users/USERNAME/Library/Preferences/G-Force on Mac OS X) and add the line nOGL=1.

Thanks - I shall try "nOGL=1"

And it fixed my original problem too. Thanks.

I still hope that the "release video on minimize" fix will happen at some stage. I imagine that OpenGL would have some benefit for me. But meanwhile, I'm pleased not to be completely left behind!

New problem with 3.5.5

Post by beeblebrox »

Although running nOGL=1 does allow G-Force to span monitors, I now have a new problem. Every once in awhile a frame of output of G-force will overwrite the main monitor (where the Toolbar runs) and totally obscure what was displayed there. This is not a window that pops up but rather, a screen redraw that takes over about 98% of the main screen. Any one seen this behavior?

reverting back one version helps

Although the stray screen overwrite problem is problematic, I went back one version and the problem went away.

Andy,
I am on the machine that beeblebrox used when he had ths complaint. I have upgraded to the 3.5.6 beta 2 that was released today, and this still seems to be an issue. Has anyone come up with a fix for this?

Thanks,
Paul
