G-Force Platinum + Mac + Two displays = Not Quite There!

Post by azilo »

Greetings -

I'm starting to plan for a small party I'll be helping with near Christmas for some children. The plan was to use my Mac's iTunes' "Party Shuffle" to provide the music, with my Mac's audio line out hooked up to an external Hi-Fi system. The Mac's secondary video output was to be attached to a projector so I could put a light-show onto the ceiling using G-Force Platinum.

All was going to plan until I tried the G-Force side of things: I openned up the "Party Shuffle" playlist into its own window on my Mac's main display. The iTunes window was dragged onto the extended desktop on the second display (currently a VGA monitor whilst testing). Set the music playing, turn on the iTunes visualiser (set to G-Force) and it pulsates away happily.

BUT... then I put G-Force into full-screen mode and it happily took over all of the second screen. Unfortunately the main screen also faded to black, leaving me unable to see the iTunes playlists in order to control them on-the-fly.

What I'm trying to do is find a way of showing G-Force full-screen on the secondary display, with the iTunes playlist windows I've opened still visible on the main display...

The closest I've got so far is to run the "G-Force Standalone" application, move its window onto the second display and make it go full-screen. This fades the main display to blue for a moment but it then reappears normally; the mouse pointer is hidden from view but a click sorts that out; and G-Force is running full-screen happily on the second display.

The problem? I can't fathom how to get G-Force Standalone to react to the music I'm playing. Using "Shift-A" to select the audio source cycles round: 3 Sound Generators (Chill, High Energy, Fluid), the Line In, the Internal Microphone, and my Soundsticks speakers(??!!?). Unfortunately none of these seem to give G-Force Standalone the music signal it needs.

I had wondered for a moment about using a lead to plug between the Mac's headphones jack and its Line In, but then I'd have nowhere to connect the Hi-Fi to.

I've tried setting G-Force Standalone to monitor the Mac's internal mic and it sort-of works, but needs continual fiddling with the response scale (+/- keys). I'd prefer a more 'direct' acquiring of the sound signal if at all possible.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to achieve this please?

Summary:
Mac
--> Main display showing iTunes windows and controls
--> Second display showing G-Force full-screen
--> Audio output going to external Hi-Fi

With many thanks,
Mike B-)

I'm having similar issues using the latest G-Force Platinum (3.5.4?) on 17" Intel iMac 1.83 & mini-DVI to S-Video adapter.

The only way I've found G-Force to be able to display fullscreen on my secondary monitor is to use Standalone & hit fullscreen, however this blacks the built-in display. Mouse will appear & move (if provoked), however will not reveal desktop.

What is the solution (or current workaround) to display fullscreen on my secondary video output while accessing the desktop on the main display?

I would prefer to be able to do this within iTunes, without having to use Standalone - however I am willing to compromise to make things happen ^_^

Are there any config settings I can change so the default display for fullscreen is my secondary output?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom

azilo,

You can buy a Y connector. It has one 1/8 inch (small headphone size) male prong and two 1/8 inch female jacks on the other end. A short male to male wire to the mic input for one jack and then the wire you currently have to the Hi-Fi into the other jack. Just turn the output all the way down and inch your way up till you see it respond.

nashw,

I don't have a clue.

another way to get around this is to stretch the windowed mode to fit the full screen , if you have an over scan option in your video card set it to overscan the monitor you want to put Gf on and then stretch the window to full screen. let GF run a minute and then shut off with the window still on your other monitor.

restart Gf and the window will start in the same position you left it.

kinda like a faux full screen.

This is on our enhancement to-do list, but I can't guarantee when you'll see it happen.

Thanks,
Andy
