low frame rate

Since I installed the new version my frame rate has dropped significantly, I had the rate set to 40 FPS and had no probs sustaning 36 to 39 FPS.

now with the new G-F I am only getting 11 FPS, as far as I know there is nothing else I can shut down or tweak in order to beef up the rate.

any tips?

You might want to check as to whether your machine can hang with OpenGL technology...also try doing the same for whatever additional acceleration setup, i.e. drivers etc.

I don't know what machine you have; but right now there're several of us iMac users running Panther that can't get v3.5 to run at all.
I say this because maybe an Open GL glitch might be a common issue.

The developers seem to be telling us that this most likely *isn't* the problem, but then why do I have several OpenGL-capable applications that work just fine? Then again, maybe OpenGL capability isn't as cut-n'-dried as I let on.

What was the last build you were on before the slow-down?

Windows XP home edition service pack one
AMD Athlon Processor 1.25GHz
Video card ATI RADEON 7500
256 MB RAM with large virtual cache
and my DirectX is up to date.


The video card has settings for open GL I have tried settings for performance and quality and the new G-Force runs exactly the same under both .

Yeah, that's some older hardware. If G-Force isn't already dropping to non-openGL mode, you can force it by putting nOGL=1 in your prefs. That should make it be drawing the way 3.1.3 does drawing.

How do I know if its in open GL mode or not G-Force looks pretty much the same as 3.13 did but its choppy .

what changes would I see if G-force was running properly?

what changes would I see if G-force was running properly?
What host/player app are you running GF in? Maybe you ran 313 in with more restricted frame sizes (letterbox mode)?

G-Force is using OpenGL if the console text color is white regardless of what colormap is currently set. If the console text color always matches the current colormap foreground color (which isn't always white), then G-Force is running in non-opengl mode.

I use winamp, I have [urchesed the gold version so I dont have the stand alone app for comparison.

what I do is set G-F to MaxX to 800 and MaxY to 640 so there is no letter box effect, I then stretch the window to fit my attached monitor which is a 32 inch TV. I tried all the resolution options with the M key but nothing changed.


I was running GF at over 50 frames per second with 3.13 {with the setting mentioned above} with no probs but it was a bit to fast so I slowed it down to 40 .

I tested my video capabilities with direct X and all the 3D tests worked fine.

I will try the new version posted recently.

I just installed the latest version , I deleted my old pref file to generate a new one and I got 14 frames per second, as soon as I put 3.13 back in it whent right back to 39 frames a sec.

guess I will stick with 313 until I get a new computer, :roll:

OK I went back and tried 3.5.1 again and open GL is working as I can see the text you mentioned is in white with a border, so GL is working .

GF looks pretty much the same but its only hitting 15 FPS, so it looks like its in slow motion.


I also made a mistake when stating what kind of RAM I have, I do not have SD RAM I have 256 DDR and I am going to add another 256 today in hopes that will give GF the space it needs to groove propperly.


I am not complaining or gripping I love GF and can not wait to see what the future brings for this app.

So I added some RAM now have 512 Mbs did nothing to help GF .

Some day I will just have to buy a new computer.

See how G-Force 3.5.2 works on your system.

If it's still slow, you can disable OpenGL mode by putting the following line in your "Global Preferences.txt" file:

nOGL=1

I have fixed my problem !! something to do with refresh rates.

GF 3.52 is flying away at 44 frames a secand it looks great!!! Thanks for making it work for us shleps with outdated software.
