Next Flowfield info

Post by willrob »

I'm on OSX, so I lack the toolbar, but I notice when I'm running in Verbose mode that each time I change the flowfield I get an extra line of text: Rather than simply telling me what flowfield is now playing, I get a line that says "Next flowfield ____" with the name in the blank space. This line appears simultaneously with the flowfield line we normally get.

So I'm guessing that when the toolbar comes to the Mac it will tell us what the next flowfield will be before it changes, or before we change it. Is this the case?

Now that I hvae the beta version of the Mac toolbar, the item I mentioned in my first post has changed—and becomes more useful.

Previously the "Next Flowfield" info reported just before making the change and then the chage was made. For example, in verbose mode, it would say "Next flowfield Fractal Madness" and then Fractal Madness would come on. This happened so quickly —simultaneoulsy in fact—that the Next message had no point.

Now—and I don't thik I selected anything in the Toolbar to cause this change—when I get a Next flowfield message, that new flowfield hasn't yet loaded, and doesn't until I either press the "s" key or the prescribed time passes for a change. This occurs without the Toolbar being loaded at all. I find this a much more useful approach, as I can then consciously note how the union is taking place between the flowfields for future scripting. Some flowfields clash abruptly when transitioning; other are almost seemless.

Calculating FlowFields is intensive, so G-Force actually starts computing the next flowfield in the FlowField (random) playlist as soon as it switches FlowFields--that's why you're seeing two messages at nearly the same time: G-Force is tell you what it's doing.
