G-Force Platinum 3.1.2 "looks" different
I hope you will all forgive an utterly non-technical question -- just put it down to my G-Force addiction. I've just upgraded to version 3.1.2 (platinum, Mac version), having been totally mesmerized by the earlier versions. I've noticed (knowing nothing of the technical underpinings) that 3.1.2 "looks" quite different from the earlier versions. Is this just because of the addition of new "designs" (excuse my total ignorance of terminology) to those that were there before? (In which case G-Force will eventually cycle through to the older look at some point?) Or is the "old look" (3.1.1 even) gone for good? If so, is there a way to get it back? I was totally entranced by it. 3.1.2 is beautiful in its own different way, but I was totally hooked by the old visual permutations.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I don't know if some configs have been taken out or not, it's possible, and some others do look a bit different sometimes as the same code can have a different look since 3.1.
If you remember the name of the configs you liked try to create a script that will call those specifically, or use the keyboard shortcuts to cycle through the different configs...
the toolbar will help you on that if the script is too much for you, just a little patience ;o)

Many Thanks
Merci bien, L'Invincible!
As I have the Mac version, I haven't a G-Force toolbar to play with ('
'). Tant pis pour mimi!
When the Mac toolbar is released, I'll try your suggestion. Thanks for the help!

I dind't mean javascript, but G-Force config scripting
it's just text files with a few G-Force commands, that you can launch via keyboard shortcuts
In the G-Force directory you should have a directory named "scripts" where you can find examples (some are more complicated than others ;o) )
but for that you need to specify exactly the configs you want to see, so if you don't know the names of the configs you liked there's no point.
there's other ways to use these scripts of course and other applications, but that won't help you.
you can also move all the configs (waveshapes, flowfields and colormaps) in a backup directory, keep in the default one only those you want to see.
else good luck with w/s/x ;o)

There was no visual difference from 3.1 to 3.1.1 to 3.1.2. Earlier versions had other config files which were deleted from the 3.1 update because they either didn't run well with the new code, or were aesthetically inferior.
It may be that the change you're noticing is simply a different cycle of flowfields, waveshapes, and colormaps. There are thousands of combinations possible, so seeing the same images on screen is unlikely without some sort of user control (scripting, or Toolbar). I'm also using a Mac and am awaiting the Toolbar egerly. In the meantime, inlike the Windows users, I can use Darkroom to create DVD worthy music animations with G-Force. Each platform currently has an advantage.

After "watching" the G-Force Platinum 3.1.2 screen saver for a while now, I think that the main differences I notice are new patterns, and a quite different color palette from what I had become used to. From what you describe, my surest route to checking out whether the "old" look is still there in this version will be to await the Mac version of the toolbar. What I'm seeing now is equally beautiful; but the "old" (3.1.1) designs and colorations were, to me, utterly exquisite, so I'll be interested to check out the various permutations most easily when the toolbar comes out. Thanks for all the information and help.

If you saved your configs from 3.1, you can put them into the folder where GF looks for active configs (saving the later configs in another folder, of course). In OS X Tiger, this will be in the Applications Support folder of Library folder.
I'd expect that any differences due to the GF application update will be subtle.
