Mine keeps stopping every 3 seconds

Post by NBachers »

I originally posted about this back on June 2nd. Here's what I've done so far:
1. I upgraded to an NVidia GeForce 6600 GT; I've bought the NVidia DVD Decoder that's supposed to enhance playback on Windows Media Player.
2. I downloaded the most recent GForce 3.01 and installed it today.
3. I downloaded Tune-Up Utilities 2006 and made sure all my system file debris was cleaned out. I disabled un-need startup items using the Startup Manager. Cleaned up the Registry. It has a Memory Optimizer, it doesn't make any difference if this is off or on.
4. I downloaded something called The Ultimate Troubleshooter to see what unnecessary system processes were running. I analyzed all my system processes and got rid of the ones I didn't need.
5. I'm keeping myself defragged. My hard drive is 95% free.
6. I'm disabling McAfee Virus, and any other resource hogging apps in my system tray. When I play WMP, the only running application is Windows Media Player.
7. I've got a decent clone system, with an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ and a gigabyte of memory.
8. I don't know how to turn off hyperthreading. Can someone post detailed instructions?
9. As you can see, I've gone way out of my way to help make this annoying stutter stop. It does it whether the Pixel Doubling is off or on; it does it in any resolution or screen mode.

task manager?

Look in your task manager, and see if there is a process that uses CPU cycles every few seconds.

Win Patrol, and Microsoft Anti-spyware both scan every few seconds.

See if you have a similar process.

sounds like you might have some spyware.

noticed this happening to me about a year ago, did some checking into my system and found 13 spyware entrys that were not picked up by the usual anti-spy devices. (adaware&spybot) ended up using about three more cleaners. try running the X-block cleaner (just type in X-block into your serch engine) also on this site you'll find somthing called x-ray my PC this is a process seeker might give you a better look at whats running in the background, also I would try one of the trial cleaners frome either Counterspy or spysweeper. (I have the paid version of spysweeper but I keep a copy of counterspy trial version for extra protection when I think somthing is sneeking around) you might want to try deleating the preferance file for g-force as well. hope this is of some help!! 8)
