G-force in a carputer

Post by bostoncarputerman »

It's odd how things happen. Sometimes a small event turns out to be a life-changing fork in the road. Amazingly, a post on this very board did that for me. Listen...

It was back in February when I wasa fooling around on the home PC and I ran across G-force. Around the same time I was looking to replace an old car with a new one (I own a small cab company in Boston) and so also update the stereo system (this is the cab which I drive myself). I had had a Sony head-unit that had pre-loaded "spectrum analysers": small vis dipalys that allegedly move to the music. I was shopping for a more advanced small display, and I though that the new car-video 6.5-7" displays, such as thos made by Pioneer, Clarion, or Alpine might offer this. After scouring the internet, and visiting local Best Buys Tweeters etc, I learned that such visualization displays did not exist, or only in a very lame form. (the Pioneer DEH 8700 and 9700 have OEL (organic electoluminescent) panels that allow upload of move or animation files; I got a psychedelic avi thing in mine)

So one night I stumbled on this post right here:

G-Force 4 life

i run a 15" lcd panel in the car and g-force is the force that has carried me over 150k miles on my journey as a messenger courier...
always grabbing the eye of those passing by...
and has kept me pointed in the right direction for years...
(well streets 'n trips too...) but mostly g-force...haha...
the best visualization out there...

So, I e-mailed the guy "how do you do that???" and he e-mailed me back:

Want some info on putting a PC in your Car? Ive had one in mine for
going on a year now.
Here is the BEST resource for you:
www.mp3car.com
Read through the forums, post any questions you have etc. I am sure
you will find the info you need but here are the basics you need to
deal with:
1) Choose your type of PC for the taxi (ie: Mini-ITX, Micro-ATX, Laptop)
2) Buy all the parts; screen, power converter, cables, housing, cases.
3) Hook it up into your car stereo; FM Modulator or direct from Headunit
4) Add Software... Media Engine, Frodo Player, whatever
5) If it breaks, go back to step 1

Good Luck man,
Let me know how it goes
-Paul

So..one thing led to another, and I became a man-on-a-mission, learning all things carputer. I set one up in my cab, with an 8" touch-screen. With this as a display model, I started a new company, Boston Carputer Inc., to market and install car PC's.

We have partnered with Verizon to offer BroadbandAccess, their bb internet mobile solution, and are official re-sellers for the 4 biggest car PC suppliers.

Now, I have dl'ed the Gold version of G-force. It's awesome! It blows my passengers away and is helping to sell the carputers.

One question:
I downloaded it for Windows Media Player. Do I have to buy a seperate version if I want to use another mp, such as WinAmp?

Anyone who wants to help with this company, please contact me. Our website is www.bostoncarputer.com

Same thing here I purchased G-Force Gold for my carputer, awsome effects when playing MP3's!

I have a Via MII 10000 board that is equal to a Pentium 3 and G-Force Gold still looks awsome. Going to try Platinum but if it is too intense for such an underpowered Mobo I will gladly go back to Gold.

Best 10 buck I ever spent.

BTW my name is -zip- on the MP3Car boards.
