Fullscreen Crash
Hi Gents,
I have been a G-Force / Aeon user for roughly a couple months now for Windows Media Player. I have been using the trial software during this time. Thus far I am VERY IMPRESSED with it and considering purchasing the software.
Only a problem has recently arisen.
I could use G-force / Aeon in fullscreen for any time i wanted however after a recent format and hardware upgrade (mobo) whenever I enter fullscreen mode the computer crashes (screen goes black and pc restarts). This occurs almost 100% in G-force roughly 10+ seconds into a song. With Aeon it has a 15% chance of occuring at any time.
I can't figure out why it would be doing this, I tried fullscreening the standard windows visualisations and they work fine.
Just to recap
- G-force crashes 10+ seconds in on fullscreen.
- Aeon crashes sometimes but at random times.
- My video drivers are up to date.
- Standard windows hd audio drivers installed.
- Windows 7 up to date.
- PC is hooked up to a TV via DVI-HDMI.
- PC audio port hooked up to speaker system.
Any ideas? I tried googling but couldnt find a replica of this case.
Would you suggest I try using WinAmp instead?
thanks!

Hello sbsolarski
G-Force and Aeon were working fine until the Mobo upgrade, are you using an on-board graphics chipset or have you a dedicated graphics card?
Did you format your hard drive?, if not try uninstalling both G-Force and Aeon, removing any / all folders on your PC then download new copies of both programs and do a fresh install of each.
Most users here use Winamp - give it a try.

Hi BTT,
In both configurations (old mobo and new mobo) I used a dedicated graphics card - Radeon 7750. AMD drivers 12.10 installed.
I formatted the HDD prior to fresh installation of windows on new mobo.
I've uninstalled / purged the programs from the system multiple times (as well as running ccleaner registry cleaner).
Just to repeat, both G-force and Aeon work fine in window mode (even maximised window mode) but as soon as I double click to hit fullscreen the problem occurs.
----Win Amp-----
I installed WinAmp and G-force, I can turn on the plugin. The only thing I can't do in WinAmp is adjust the fullscreen resolution. When I press "m" it just cycles through "0x0" at the top left corner.
However for Aeon when I press "m" it works and I can adjust the fullscreen.
Thanks for your help, sorry to be a pain

Hello sbsolarski
Good to know Aeon is now working, I take it that's using Winamp. It would be interesting to know which version of G-Force you are using, is it 4.3.2 or 4.4?
You mention CCleaner, it's a very good program for 'cleaning' but I would advise NOT to use the registry part of the program. (My opinion - not SoundSpectrum's)

How do I change the full screen resolution settings?
Your display device may show G-Force best in a resolution different than the default full screen resolution. 1024x768 is the default resolution because most monitors and projectors show it well and it yields good frame rates for typical setups. If you have a faster setup or use a display device that looks best in a particular resolution, you will want to change the full screen resolution mode. While running G-Force, press M (the key for "Switch full screen resolution") to step through the available full screen resolutions. Be warned that frame rate decreases as full screen resolution increases (because G-Force must process more pixels). Also, see "How can I increase frame rate?" in the Performance section. Note: some media players, such as Windows Media Player don't allow plugins to request a particular full screen mode, so any full screen settings that you alter (by pressing M or a pref file edit) will have no effect.

Hey BTT thank you for your replies, I appreciate the help.
The G-Force I'm using is 4.4. Would you have any clue as to why I cannot cycle through the fulls creen resolutions.
Aeon fullscreen on WinAmp seems to work so far. Have not tested for an extended period of time.
Noted about the registry aspect of CCleaner.
When I get home from work I will most likely format the entire PC again and do a fresh install of Windows, immediately install the necessary drivers (audio/video) and then proceed to install G-Force again for WMP. Will keep you updated.

The procedure outlined above does not work for me in G-force for WinAmp. For some reason instead of cycling through 800x600 -> 1366x768 -> 1900x1080....etc it just comes up with 0x0 (re-occuring) and an error message (dont remember it but will post it when I get home).BTT wrote:Hello sbsolarski

Hello sbsolarski
When using G-Force does pressing 'H' bring up a help screen showing what various keys control? and do any of them have any effect?
May I suggest before formatting your drive you give Aeon running on Winamp a thorough testing, say a couple of days. When you format your drive do not install Aeon and G-Force from saved copies. Download fresh copies from:-

BTT,
Seem to have found the solution...
I tried about a thousand things in order to fix it including:
- Formatting
- Installing a lot of different (video) driver versions
- Switching DVI-HDMI with HDMI-HDMI cable
- Unplugging audio sources
None of them worked, I eventually moved to the 2nd hdmi port on my TV and noticed that the picture was slightly zoomed out. This prompted me to turn off the "overscan" setting in the Catalyst Control Centre in order to make the screen fit. Unlike Port 1, Port 2 had screen fit already selected on the TV which meant using the overscan option in CCC wasnt needed. Port 1 (the one where it crashed) however didn't have screen fit selected which was one overscan was used.
Anyway the visualisation worked perfectly for 2 hours and didn't end up crashing when overscan was set to its default off.
How wack is that? regardless I will now revert to Port 1, turn off overscan and adopt the TVs screen fit function.
This all came about most likely due to the fact that most new TVs have all this processing ability coupled with overlays and filters...etc once you involve PC controlled video settings it can cause conflicts. The main point I'm trying to make is leave CCC as default as you can and first try to configure picture crop using the TV only.
