? problem running scripts

Post by bodhi »

:?: great program! I am new to G-Force, running 4.2.0 Demo in iTunes 10 under Win XP SP3. I am not apparently, able to launch scripts using CTRL key sequence, e.g., CTRL+5 isn't launching the script 'CTRL 5.txt' located in the Scripts folder. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.

My guess is that you haven't first selected the display window. Click on it first, and try 'CTRL 2' , which also dribbles some text to the screen, just to see if things are working ... THEN try 'CTRL 5' again.

The other possibility is that Sprites exists in the background layer, and can easily be obscured by WaveShapes, Particles, or the action of Flowfields.

thanks jerohm, for your speedy reply! :)

clicking in the window doesn't seem to help. the other key commands appear to be working as expected. however, no text appears when i try 'CTRL 2'. (sigh) a bug? or do i have to upgrade to the gold or platinum version to get this functionality?

i've since moved on to testing on a new Mac running OS X 10.6.6, iTunes 10.1.2, and a pristine install of G-Force 4.2.0, with not much better results.
'CTRL 1' does indeed display text on the screen: Error: script "CTRL A.txt" not found

'CTRL 2' - 'CTRL 5' display the same error. any ideas?

i should add that i have been a huge fan of Andy's work since i purchased my old iBook G3 years ago. and i am delighted to see that his classic Visualizer is included in iTunes 10.

thanks again for your kind help.
in gratitude,
bodhi

First, I am working on a PC (Win 7, at the moment), so anything I say must first be converted to Apple conventions. That Job[s  ] is on someone else's shoulders. Script are now handled by two different mechanisms ... I understand WHY, but it surely will lead to confusion. The OLD way, the scripts where located in with the program files in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\Scripts'. This is still supported, and uses the 'CTRL X.txt', where 'X' is some character, and globally accessible to all users. The other is Shift [W/R], that [W]rite or [R]ead one's personal scripts from: "C:\Users\Account Name\AppData\Roaming\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\Scripts\Key [some character].txt". You saying that you get 'Error: script "CTRL A.txt" not found' when trying to execute a CTRL [12345] says there PROBABLY IS an error that need to be looked at. It doesn't make any sense that you get an error about 'CTRL A' if you are typing CTRL [1-5]. You should TRY to get 'CTRL 2.txt' to work FIRST, because it uses a 'stdout()' call and you will know FOR SURE that it is being invoked. That said, it sounds like you might have discovered an error :( . Good luck and have fun playing
