Changing Morph Speed Between Configs

Post by BTT »

Hello All

Could someone please show me how to change the morph speed when changing from one config to another in GF V4.0.

This is an XP guess only...
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Application Data\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\Preferences (Standalone).txt
( Standalone or whichever player you use)

Code: Select all

WaveShape.Transition.Duration = 13
WaveShape.Transition.Duration.Quick = 1.199999
WaveShape.Transition.Duration.StdDeviation = 0.2
okay, time for some shameful promotion :roll: : New Waveshape
you might not appreciate the music, but (I think) it still has merit. Note: No Flowfield support here.
enjoy, or not ... it tis, what it tis

Excellent.

I left a pithy list of suggestions for your consideration.

FWIW.

Thank yee kind sir, you be indeed a gentleman.

Guess who looked in every text file in C\Programs............ and never thought of looking in Docs/Sets. Now I can change the Transition Duration to whatever I want for W/S, C/M and F/F's, many thanks.

Had a look at the video, it appears to be made up of three separate WaveShapes, The last one that responded to the music was my personal favourite. It was definitely top class. When do we get the config details? I would love to have this on my system.

You may already know this now, but all of those "duration" items in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\Preferences (Winamp).txt can/should be changed to produce "faster" and "more responsive" morphing.

I've been a long-time G-Force user for many years now, and with each release re-customize my Winamp preferences to match the values I'd come up with many years ago, to pep up the way G-Force behaves. It's gorgeous to look at, but I get impatient waiting for new things to happen. So my "duration" values are (I believe) quite a bit shorter than the defaults (not to mention expressed in a more understandable intuitive form).

Here are my changes to my Winamp preferences for the latest G-Force Platinum 4.1.3 (the remaining lines are untouched from the delivered defaults):

Audio.Preamp.Scale = 1.915686
Audio.Response.Scale = 0.997631
ColorMap.Slideshow.Interval.Duration = "8 + rnd( 15 )"
ColorMap.Transition.Duration = "2 + rnd( 10 )"
FlowField.Slideshow.Interval.Duration = "12 + rnd( 12 )"
Particle.Duration = "8 + rnd( 15 )"
Particle.Slideshow.Interval.Duration = "20 + rnd( 40 )"
Sprite.Duration = "10 + rnd( 10 )"
Sprite.Slideshow.Interval.Duration = "103.531550"
TargetFrameRate = 34
WaveShape.Slideshow.Interval.Duration = "10 + rnd( 10 )"

Obviously, everybody has their own preferences and modifications. I'm not insisting my set is any better than anybody else's. But it's definitely produced a much more dynamic and "responsive" and faster-morphing G-Force, and I like that.

Give it a try.

Hello dsperber

Good to hear from another long term GF user and, thanks very much for taking the time and trouble to post your personal WinAmp Prefs.

I changed the appropriate lines in my WinAmp Prefs file and, took it for a ride. The difference between your changes and, the GF default settings were noticeable and, the experience was much more enjoyable.

Trouble is now you have got me playing with all the different types of settings and, that can be dangerous, he he.

The one thing I don't understand is when I change the WinAmp Prefs to my liking they re-set to the default settings when I load WinAmp / GF (except the transition values).

Can I refer you to:-

There must be a way.

I don't understand.

If you've been able to change the "transition" values (presumably with Notepad or similar) in your Winamp preferences file, and save the updated TXT file, and then open Winamp and start playing a track and G-Force launches and you can see the result of your changes, then I don't see why changing any other values would not see the same results.

I'm running G-Force Platinum v4.1.3. All I've ever done as each new release comes out is exactly the same thing as I've always done: (1) install the latest version for the first time (if this is part of a new OS reinstall, for example) or just install the latest version right over an existing installed version, (2) run Winamp once so that the new version of G-Force launches for the first time, (3) close Winamp/G-Force, and then (4) use Beyond Compare to compare the latest Preferences (Winamp).txt to my previously saved version and replace each of the news lines with my own customized versions (per my earlier post).

Any other new/deleted lines in the latest Preferences (Winamp).txt are left untouched. I only change the lines I've noted earlier. Note that I do not use G-Force toolbar. And I make sure (in Toolbar Preferences) that it doesn't autostart with G-Force, though I also check "close when G-Force closes" just to be sure it's gone when I close Winamp.

Also, I don't change any of the default directory locations for where things go when I install G-Force. That means for Win7, for example, the preferences files are stored in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SoundSpectrum\G-Force, which certainly allows for user edits and saving without any UAC issues.

Just as a thought, why don't you completely uninstall G-Force, make sure all directories are deleted, and then reinstall the latest version from scratch again. Then follow my steps above, only customizing AFTER running Winamp/G-Force at least once and then closing, so that it builds all of its initial preferences files.

Of course it goes without saying that you shouldn't be editing the preferences files while the program is open and running.

Can't help you here. I've never used that MakeMap tool, nor have I fooled around with colormaps. I just use G-Force as provided.

But if anybody knows the way to produce PNG from this, it would be Andy. No? Perhaps he will answer your request.

Hello dsperber

Reading your last post and in particular:-
Note that I do not use G-Force toolbar
That was the culprit. I was indeed using the toolbar, as soon as I disabled it the changes I made to Winamp Prefs remained intact. The toolbar was resetting all the values to their default settings with the exception of transition values.

I don't change any of the default directory locations, neither would I edit the Winamp prefs while the program is running.

I have been experimenting with various settings to the list of lines in your original post and, to be perfectly honest apart from the Particle Duration and, Particle.Slideshow.Interval.Duration I cannot improve on your preferences.

I share your impatience waiting for something new to happen and, now with your modifications to the Winamp prefs it feels like a brand new version of GF.
But it's definitely produced a much more dynamic and "responsive" and faster-morphing G-Force, and I like that.
.........and I like it too. I would encourage anyone who knows what they are doing to give dsperber's changes to the Winamp prefs a try.
