I just purchased the platinum version and can't get it to not start on the Black Colormap. Everytime I play a new song (from a stop), that's what it selects and so I can't see anything until it switches to a new colormap.
I have deselected black from the colormap list, but it still selects it everytime.
G Force 4 Starts Black Colormap no matter what....
I THINK I have seen that problem before ... the good news is I would suspect nothing is really (too) wrong, the bad news is that I forgot how I addressed it. The colormap '(Black)' is the FIRST alphabetically in the list. The 'Waveshapes', 'Colormaps' and 'Flowfields' are presented EITHER randomly OR alphabetically, depending on their calling procedure. There is probably a preference value that is screwed up, but a cursory search didn't result in anything OBVIOUS to me. The first thing I would try is a complete UNINSTALL/reINSTALL. Then, I would use the toolbar and just disable [uncheck] '(BLACK)' and see if the NEXT 'colormap' in the list becomes the 'default' ... which would STILL be an error, but provide useful debugging data ... I suspect your issue will disappear upon a complete UNISTALL/reINSTALL though ... (so YOU might wanna try my toolbar stunt FIRST
).
Second Thoughts...
The current G-FORCE state isn't squirreled away UNTIL shutdown, so any abnormal shutdown could leave it in a funny state. I am on XP, so I am a bit out of my element here, but along the same lines... I occasionally have rouge copies of G-Force/Toolbar AFTER termination that are evident using the Task Manager. Since I am not familiar exactly how W7 works, you could try to view the running tasks and see if anything looks amiss (they CAN cause unpredictable behaviour!) and terminate appropriately... or just reboot
!
There MAY be lines you could add to the startup file, but let's not get ahead of ourselves ... you really shouldn't HAVE too.
luck,
j

Using Version 4.0.1 (3264)datdude wrote:Finally got around to trying to fix this. I uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, then rebooted and it still reverts to black...
I found that same problem. I didn't stop to check it out because it was related to the probolem mentioned by jerohm in his "GForce Sprite loading" post under General Discussion.
If you uncheck all elements (WS, CM, FF, Part, Sprites), and leave only one element checked in each category, the next time you boot, GForce is "broken." The next time you boot, it will only boot with the (black) CM.
See jerohm's post where I document this "broken" problem.
I don't know how many elements you need to leave in each category for this effect to not take place, or if any particular category is the one that is causing the problem. Once you apply the fix jerohm mentioned or I mentioned, it's okay .... until you uncheck items again.
Once "broken" everytime you double-click GForce, it will always boot in (black), i.e. there is no more random selection of elements upon reboot, as would be the normal case. Yes, GForce will boot, but it always comes up in black and... the Tool Bar becomes detached, as also documented in one of my bug reports. The detachment of the ToolBar is probably something datadude doesn't know to look for.
Hope this all helps.
I would recommend that datadude re-install and pay careful attention to the installation question (separate screen during install) which asks what "player" he intends to use with GForce. He is using River Media, with which I am not familiar. I think River Media is one of the selections indicated during the installation procedure, and it should be checked. See if this has any positive results.
Hopes this helps.
