"Invisible" Cursor - WMP 11, Win XP, SoundSpectrum

Post by Saganized »

Hi, when using Windows Media Player 11 (G-Force 3.9.4 as my Visualization), after a few seconds time the cursor disappears. That's normal, I'm pretty sure.

But if I leave the player unattended long enough--say about 30 minutes--sometimes the cursor has become completely invisible. That is, it won't come back when I move the mouse! I can tell the cursor is moving, only because WMP menu items change color when I mouse-over them. Very frustrating.

I'm using a Dell Dimension 4700 with 3GB RAM. I recently upgraded to an EVGA GeForce 8400 GS video card with 512MB video memory--seems to be operating just fine--so video memory shouldn't be an issue.

Also, I'm using Windows Inverted (system scheme) for cursors. Wouldn't think that would be an issue, either.

Any ideas what causes the cursor to vanish completely, and how I can get G-Force/WMP 11 to reactivate the "vanished" cursor when I move the mouse? Thank you.

I may have an answer to my own question. lol

The cursor vanishes after a few seconds of Full Screen operation, which is normal. However, if I exit Full Screen by using the ESCAPE key (Esc), it is then that the cursor "becomes completely invisible." (Maybe if someone else uses the Esc key when in Full Screen, their cursor will vanish, too?)

On the other hand, if I exit Full Screen by simply moving the mouse, the cursor is visible again.

So the answer seems to be, do not exit Full Screen mode by pressing the Esc key! :?

Hi Saganized. SoundSpectrum developers are aware of this mouse pointer oddity in WMP and have addressed it within the next GF update (4.0) which should be officially released shortly. If you are a current license holder, downloading this update when it becomes available should fix the problem. If you are a current Platinum license holder, feel free to add yourself to the G-Force Beta List to try out the current beta for GF 4.0.

@sitsparky... Thanks, I upgraded to 4.0 and it works better. However, I still managed to lose the cursor a couple times; but I seem to have a separate issue (vertical white bars in Full Screen mode) that may impact the vanishing cursor problem.

The vertical white bars may be a WMP issue and not caused by G-Force. Remains to be seen. (I'm also trying to get help from the Microsoft Answers Music and Sound Forum...which sometimes seems a lot like getting a tooth pulled.)
