they are NOT mine, so they're for private use only, but make up a pretty reasonable selection of which you can pick and choose (at least I think so).

enjoy, or not

Nice find jerohm :) Some nice one's there :)
I have a great Wall-Paper site that I use quite often, and use for G-Force back grounds, you can download the res that fits your screen, mine is 1680x1050, which looks better when using G-Force in fullscreen. Not to sure if I will be allowed to link to that site here, if someone can say it's OK, then I will add link :) It is a safe site :)

Cheers...

If Jerohm just did it, why can't you? ;)

As long as the backies are used for the users' private purposes.

Hello All

I realise that a lot of you guys are into 'Sprites' in a big way, so thought I too would download some pics and, see what all the 'fuss is about'.

Most of the pics were in color and, not really visible in GF, I converted them to grayscale but, that didn't really help much either. The question then is what do you do to the pics so that they are visible in GF?.

I personally believe background sprites add a lot to the GF experience. It is the melding of reality and surrealism that draws my fascination (simple things for simple minds, ya know). I think geometrics works the best ... in nature, architecture, engineering, or graphic designs too. Forcing the viewer to focus past the foreground activity is a noble effort (that whole forest through the trees thing). Very few are included in the distribution, I ASSUME due to copyright issues, but that shouldn't limit your personal library. Mine consists of over 500 files that I decided I like for one reason or another. Some work well, and others, obviously less so. Flowfield/Colormap selection have the greatest weight in determining the display detail... some combinations will totally obscure the background. I run shuffle/duration @ ~25 secs.

Okay, now the negative side. Preparing/starting the backgrounds' display seems to hit the FPS in a disproportionate negative fashion. I do NOT understand why, UNLESS it is a side-effect of also supporting Quicktime clips. IF that is the case, I WISH the user could opt OUT of *.MOV presentation capabilities. Typically, I just leave MY backgrounds as I download them; GF grey scaling/sizing doesn't seem to be the (grinding) contributing factor. That said, [pre-grey scaling]/[sizing < 100K] is probably a GOOD idea.

I discovered that Colormaps that use the first 64 positions as a straight grayscale map, will display the background pretty much as one would expect in B&W (Search my posts for October.map/png for a good example - also used in my (Extra) Stonehenge Screenshot ). I THINK it would be a good idea if GF would occasionly randomly 'create' colormaps from the existing and SUBSTITUTE the first 64 positions with the grey scale palette (This is actually a spinoff of Jaypro's desire for colormap unions ... which 'I' THINK has merit).

If you seek out my very first post, I played around moving sprites around the screen. I think this is very under utilized, but Andy explained to me once, why he has concerns about some negative implications. ... I like'm anyway

Hello swiftyone

It's my pleasure, good to know it was to your liking. There is some great stuff on that site. When I discovered it and, selected to view the abstract section I thought I was going to be there all day.
