whitecap 5.2.2 pltnm - standalone not responding to audio

greetings!

I have been attempting to get whitecap to run from the audio output of cubase 5..
since I can only see options in the whitecap standalone version to allow selection for audiocard inputs (as opposed to outputs or software application outputs) I simply routed the output of cubase to an input via an external analog mixing desk.

however, whitecap does not respond to the audio input signal.. I can see the signal is coming into the soundcard correctly and have not found a setting in white cap that I can tweak to activate the effects..

any idea why this is?
