Lower performance since 3.8?

With version 3.7.5, G-Force in WMP on Vista 64 was always smooth. Now with version 3.8 onwards, the visualisation will "slow down" quite often, with the fps dropping from 60 to 40s.

My specs are Q6600 and 8800GTX, so there is more than enough power there... in the changelog it says that G-Force is now using Direct3D instead of OpenGL, is it possible to switch it back to using OpenGL with version 3.8.1?

I have the same problem with Vista 32. I found by enabling pixel doubling in visualization preferences performance increased and cpu went from 50-55% down to around 30-35%. Works good for me.

I think DX 10 is the way to go. Opengl is so out of touch these days.
Is G-force Multicore Proccessor aware ? I'm not sure it is
Are you sure vista has enough free memory seems fine here on my vista 32 hp. and I have 4 gig. but a lesser gfx card than you. maybe you can do post your computers performance score from the vista test.

Mine is 5.8 ( was 4.9 till i put faster ram in)
I'll come to bed once i've seen everything in G-Force.

yes

once GF is running hit the shift + D and it will switch from open GL to direct 3d but you will have to restart GF for the change to take place

Thanks!!! That worked, now using OpenGL again and fps is smooth at 60.

@Orbstah, I get 5.9 for everything except my HDD hehe. I also have 4GB ram.

I believe there is a bug with D3D rendering... fraps showed that the framerate was often 64 (when it's not slowing down), which is impossible since my vsync limit is 60fps. When using OpenGL, fraps always shows 60fps which is what it should be.

I'm now using version 3.8.4, and I'm having the same problem as before, the framerate stays at 64 then will drop, and the visualization will "slow down" when it drops, which is very irritating.

Changing between OpenGL and D3D no longer seems to do anything... any other solution?

try shutting down any unnecessary items running in the background to free up some memory or try updating your video drivers to the latest versions.

I'm on a clean Vista install, with Nvidia drivers 177.83 (came out today).

The problem is the same as before, when I run FRAPS, G-Force runs at 64fps then dips regularly to 30-40, which is when it appears to "slow down". My Vsync limit is 60fps, however turning Vsync off seems to have no effect. So, this was the same problem I had before, but now it seems to do it in BOTH D3D and OpenGL.

Also often when pressing Shift+O, no text appears in G-Force saying the mode is changed, what's up with that?

Version 3.8.5 seems to have fixed the problem! :)
