G-Force Toolbar problem - "Failed to Connect"
Ever since yesterday's Windows Update, the G-Force Toolbar cannot connect to G-Force, and I get the pop-up error.
I have looked through the forums for help, and the only thing that I have found is to make sure that the Toolbar is in exception in Windows Firewall.
I have the Firewall turned off, and I still get the pop-up error.
This has all started quite suddenly, and is a bit of a pain.
I use G-Force and the toolbar exclusively with J. River Media Center Pro, but have it installed for WMP as well, and the same error pops when G-Force is activated in WMP as well.
Please help.
Thanks,
Bob

I take it you are not running another firewall ,net23 wrote:Ever since yesterday's Windows Update, the G-Force Toolbar cannot connect to G-Force, and I get the pop-up error.

If You dont have another firewall running (and you should) do a complete uninstall of GF and delete the soundspectrum folder located in your user documents and settings/ application data folder.
then restart and reinstall GF.
see if that helps
I completely un-installed G-Force and deleted the folders in Documents and Settings, restarted the PC and re-installed the app twice, and I still have the "Failed to Connect" problem.
The only thing that I am aware of changing on my PC was a rather large windows automatic update yesterday.
Has anyone else resolved this problem?

you must have some kind of program that momitors internet access and is blocking GF, AV, anti spyware, what do you got? or make sure your firewall is actually shut off, sometimes windows will start the security center by default after an update, this can reactivate your windows firewall withiout you knowing it.net23 wrote:I completely un-installed G-Force and deleted the folders in Documents and Settings, restarted the PC and re-installed the app twice, and I still have the "Failed to Connect" problem.

Well, I'm pretty sure that I do not have anything on my computer that is limiting access. The firewall is definitely turned off, I use the router's firewall... I also have Active Virus Shield running, but that has never been a problem, it's a free Kapersky engine AV package... I have never had this problem before.
If you can reccomend a method for digging deeper to find the cause of the problem, I'm game.
Thanks,
Bob

you must set the routers firewall to give access to GF, if you've done that try turning off all your anti virus software and see what happensnet23 wrote:Well, I'm pretty sure that I do not have anything on my computer that is limiting access. Nope. Nothing about this computer has changed that I can find at all.
I suppose that it is just a fluke on my PC.
I would appreciate a list of all of the ports that G-Force needs to access in order to work properly.
If my router is turned off and the PC is not connected to anything, this problem exists. No firewall, no antivirus. Seems to me that if for some reason, G-Force needs access to the internet in order to see it's toolbar, that's pretty strange.
I have been a customer of Soundspectrum since 2004, and I've never had a problem, but seems to me that something other than the way I have my PC set is causing this problem.
Is there anyone in here that has a more detailed method of helping me to troubleshoot this issue?
Thanks,

Failed to Connect
It's not just a fluke on your computer. My computer started doing the same thing all of a sudden. I've tried changing the configuration on my firewall and antispyware without success. Don't know what else to try but it's certainly annoying not being able to use the tool bar. It kind of defeats the purpose of the visualizer.

is J river and wmp player accessing the net ok on their own? if not could be were your problem is. If they cannot connect then neither can GF.
Im using the most current version and the tool bar works just fine. which version are you using?net23 wrote:Yup everything else on the PC is just fine. MC connects to the Internet whenever it needs to to get ripping information, podcasts whatever.
At least I am not the only one... I assume that an update at some point will correct this. Kinda sux, but that's life.
Thanks for the help.
some setting in your computer has to be blocking it .
go back and do a complete uninstall delete all soundspectrum folders located in your comp (make sure you get both do a complete search for anything related to soundspectrum delete all ) clean the registry restart and reinstall GF.
I know you have tried unistalling but so many people have fixxed their problems this way its worth another try.

Okay, I tried juxtiphi's advice and uninstalled G Force with an uninstaller. Then I ran a search for files and folder associated with G Force and deleted everything that was found. I then did the same thing with Sound Spectrum. I then checked the windows installer to make sure nothing was left there and then cleaned up the Registry. After that, I down loaded and reinstalled the software from the website, and it seems to have worked. The tool bar functions like it's suppose to and I haven't received any error messages yet. I'll keep my fingers crossed that took care of the problem. Thank you for the advice, it's much appreciated.
toolbar not connecting to G-Force
I'm a newbee to the forum but using G-Force a couple of years. I had the same problem with the toolbar this last week. Checked the firewall, shut off the firewall, uninstall reinstall you name it for about four days. Then I looked into changes in TCP/IP network protocol. I discovered a program I wasn't familiar with on my Vista..."Bonjour"an Apple program I must have got when I installed Quicktime-itunes. Bonjour was left behind after uninstalling itunes. Uninstalled Bonjour and problem solved on my pc. I hope this helps.
