Screensaver doesnt have any settings?

Post by Fraggie »

My computer have a tendensy to pop out of screensaver-mode for no reason, just like it does if i try going into sleeping mode.

I bought G-force and WhiteCap Platinum today after using the trials for a while. Really great stuff, i almost get hypnotized by some effects :D

I want to be sure the screensaver is locked and running and wont go away until i say so by pressing a button or entering a password. But i cant even open any preferences.. all i see is a logotype.. no settings at all :( Is there really no settings i can alter?

When im all dreaming and looking at the screen i dont wanna be afraid of touching the mouse or something

you dont wanna touch the mouse and I think you can actually change some of the prameters by copying some from your players prefs file and replacing the said setting in the screensavers prefs file so it will react to music but I dont use the screen saver so I dont really know how to do it, but it was discussed here some time ago.

I don't know if this will help, but in XP, right-click your desktop and choose "properties"

Click the "Screensaver" tab.

Check the box "On resume, password protect"

Apply.

Make sure in power options that

"Turn off monitor" and "Turn off Had disks" is set to "Never"

Or long enough tome for you to enjoy your screensaver.

I hope this helps.

As you can see, when i select preferences i get that box in bottom of the screenshot. There's nothing i can do with it.. :?

"Aldrig" means "Never" in Swedish btw..

I can password protect any of the regular screensavers, but i guess G-Force screensaver isnt working quite like a regular screensaver or something.. sigh. But trust me when i say it should do.. if i would like that, should i post feedback somewhere else or can you expect the developers to drop by in here?

If you notice, none of the native Windows screen savers has any password options. That's because in XP, this is achieved by the Welcome screen--it's not an individual setting for each screen saver, but rather a standard feature of XP screen saver functionality.

Did this not work? This option (also called "On resume, display Welcome screen" for systems that have .NET installed) is the password-protect option that you're talking about and is currently unchecked in your screenshot.

I believe "resume" is when you move your mouse, or use your keyboard to get it out of screensaver mode. (I don't have .NET )

Try it and see what happens,.you can always uncheck it later (don't lose your password)

Appearantly i was wrong when i said all the other screensavers had password protection

I tried the suggested idea with both G-Force and default screensavers. Same thing happens, i pop out of the screensaver and get to the welcome screen where i now have to type in my password.

Thats not what i planned.. =/

You can always uncheck the box and be back where you started. My guess is something is disturbing the screensaver, maybe you use a cordless mouse or keyboard?

I am going to try it for myself, and see if it jumps out of screensaver mode even without touching the mouse or keyboard.

I believe XP is coded in a way that makes software running superior.. Some anti-virus forces sleeping mode off, maybe its the same with screensavers. I dont know.. All i know for sure is that sleeping mode is quite useless on XP.. but that is disabled on my computer anyway.

I think you're gonna have to wait for Andy to put some settings in for the screensaver so it can override the resume on mouse movment.

GF has evolved considerably since its first inception. Andy has made quite a few changes and added a lot of features so its not out of the question, but it may take some time.

wasn't sure where to post this...so I picked HERE.

I purchased GF Platinum a few months ago and I didn't realize there was a screensaver mode, too. Duh.
Anyway.....it's great and, well.....not much more to add. \:D/
