Apple laptop to run G-Force

Post by MarcusMaximus »

I want to use G-Force Pro in musical performances. I have a current commercial licence and have used it successfully with a desktop pc. I want to buy a 2nd hand Apple laptop to use instead. I am wondering whether a G4 iBook (1.33 12¨ model) would be adequate (it has only 32mb vram for the graphics) or whether I need to go for something more powerful, like a Powerbook with a good graphics card. Alternatively, I am considering a Mac Mini (the Core Duo 1.66 model) but have come across some reviews that say the graphics capabilities of the Mini are disappointing. But would it run G-Force well enough, i.e. smoothly with a good range of colours etc?

I wonder if anyone has any advice / experience that could help with my decision. Obviously, I am trying to keep my costs down as I already own an iMac but want to get a 2nd machine that would do an adequate job in a live context.

Thanks in advance.

I would say that you should invest in a Powerbook with a very capable graphics card.

GF can run slowly if it doesnt have the backup it needs, so in a live setting you dont want Gf to slow down stutter, or lag

:D

Thanks Juxtiphi. That makes sense. I suppose we're talking about something with 128mb minimum video ram? I am more used to pc's so in that case it would probably also mean a separate card, i.e. not integrated. I presume the same would be true for a Mac?

Hmm.. Just came across this in another post, written by atriniti:

¨Your video card and RAM are largely irrelevant. This app is 95% CPU power.¨

Is that true? If so, that seems to confuse the issue. Or is it that smooth performance in a live setting requires as much power as possible in both the cpu and the video card?

:?
