Just bought the latest Platinum version. I love this program...it's the best thing that's happened to my music listening experience in some time. Fantastic job!
I've started experimenting with customization. I've put some images in the external folder, and it works well enough. However, I'd really like to try some images "unadulterated". By that I mean the images can be hard to see when the effects take over (washed out, color changes, etc). Is there a way to make these images appear "as is" with gforce visualizations on top of them?? I'm dying to try out some "op art" as backgrounds...check out this link: http://www.ritsumei.ac.jp/~akitaoka/opart-e.html
If I could get gforce on top of those...downright nauseating experience!
hey there. Yeah, I read that post, and even looked at the linked website by chkman. It was a little advanced for me, so was hoping there was an easier solution.
I guess I need step-by-step instructions before I attempt to do this. I've had gforce less than a week now. Any additional help would be appreciated.
It looks like I need to download the extras.zip file from chkman? Is this for the latest version of gforce? The instructions say that they will unzip to the correct folders. Assuming that goes well, I then need to select the "chk_nothing" wave (or is it a background?) in the gforce toolbar? Do I have to uncheck all of the other waves/backgrounds? OR, do I have to run one of chkman's scripts to make it work???? If so, how do I run a script?!
I too got lost when reading the instructions, as networks are my thing and I hate programming. Thus I have little understanding when it comes down to reading code. Any way to explain how to get the slide show effect for dummies would be great! =]
Hey abbatazappa,
no worries about this. G-Force is pretty daunting stuff. Don't have a clue about most of either but did managed to get this to work. Here's what I did
1) Install G-Froce (obviously!) For me, this install G-Force to the directory C:\Program Files\SoundSpectrum\G-Force 2) Download the extras.zip from chkman and save to C: drive 3) Unzip the contents to a temporary folder, eg C:\extras. Ie don't use the "Use folder name" option. This will stop everything being extracted to the G-Force folder 4) Copy the file C:\Extras\Program Files\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\WaveShapes\Extras\chkman\(chk_Nothing).txt to the G-Froce folder C:\Program Files\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\WaveShapes 5) Copy the file C:\Extras\Program Files\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\FlowFields\Extras\chkman\(chk_Nothing).txt to the G-Force folder C:\Program Files\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\FlowFields 6) Start up media player or whatever player you use 7) The G-Froce toolbar should now appear 8 On the toolbar click the green button beside waveshape so that it turns red. Fromthe drop menu for waveshape select the waveshape chk_nothing. When it is green it will randomly select a waveshape from the list of options. When it is red it will just use the selected waveshape. 9) On the toolbar click the green button beside flowfield so that it turns red. Fromthe drop menu for flowfield select the flowfield chk_nothing. 10) Click the particles, images & videos tab on the toolbar 11) Uncheck all of the default images located in here 12) Click "Use External folder" and point to the location of your images. Possibly click "includesubfolders" if you need to.
13) Mess around with the sliders for "image duration" & "shuffle speed". I'm still not sue how these things work exactly
If ya do all of the above, this should give you full view of your images with very simple graphics on top of them. The colour of your images will change and this is due to the random colourmaps being changed.
If you like a particular colour, just click the green button to turn it red and select the colourmap you like. Watch it for a few minutes to see if this is what you need.
Some other points of note 1) If you want some more graphics/effects allow the flowfields to be random. Click the red button back to green for flowfields.
You could also try setting waveshape & colourmap to random and let flowfield on chk_nothing. 2) If the above is all you want G-Force to do (this is the case for me as I use it to show my photos) you can move everything except the (chk_Nothing).txt files in the folders C:\Program Files\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\WaveShapes & C:\Program Files\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\FlowFields to another location. Next time you start up Media Player you don't need to check waveshapes & flowfield options as the (chk_Nothing).txt files are the only available files for G-Force. 3) If you fancy messing around some more, do extract chkmans extras.zip file to the G-Force folder. He has got a lot of interesting stuff in there worth looking at. Just play around with the waveshapes, flowfields & colourmaps.
Phew, thats it. Hope you've learned something from this. As you can see no need for scripts or programming!
es289345, hope this helps you out as well.
Anything else, let me know and I'll try to help out.
Cheers

Wow, shav, that's exactly the kind of instructions I was hoping for...I see how I will be spending my weekend!
I'll post my results after I've had a chance to experiment.
As a side note, I was trying out some background images last night. If you download some artwork by ESCHER on the internet (try Google images), they fit very well with gforce graphics! I'm loving this program!! Next step...a projector so I can get the totally immersive effect. I've been wanting to get a projector anyway for movies, so this is just another excuse to go ahead and pull the trigger.
