Ben a few years since I’ve done upgrades, added configs etc…. Because all has been dialed in to a relatively complex system of screens, backlighting and hue lighting configurations… but I’m now contemplating a new machine to drive things on, so asking a relatively simply question …

I updated my subscription and downloaded the new version. But I'm getting errors.

The toolbar is only seeing "My Macbook Air" but I have a Macbook Pro. This never happened before.

It's giving me the security settings, so I checked them. G-Force is listed as "Allowed" in my Local Network.

Here are my screenshots of the situation:

I then used GPT to troubleshoot. It had me move the Source folders to my desktop and restart. Now, if I open the Standalone, the toolbar finds my computer and microphone. But no input happens. I clap my hands and nothing changes. This is not how it used to be...

What can I do?

This is just a little to complicated for me, so I have requested Andy O Meara the maker of G-Force to respond to your issue. Being a very busy guy it may take a day or two for him to post. The problem will I am sure will be fixed for you.

The "My Macbook Air" comes from your mac's computer name in System Settings.

Also, I assume this the toolbar and Standalone are running on the same mac? If not, don't forget about Settings > G-Force Toolbar Control > Allow Remote Control.

I tried a reinstall of the new G-Force Version 5.9.5 (b74ec67). It has the same audio issues, nothing comes through my Microphone. I've filmed a video of the issue. Clearly my Mac is getting audio input but it's not being recognized by the new version of G-Force. (But it was working with the old version).

Hi Andy! Been loving G-Force since my college freshman year in 2000. It's still my favorite visualizer and it's been with me in so many important parts of my life. I can't express how grateful I am.

Yes, the toolbar and standalone are running on the same mac. I think G-Force is not making a call to Mac Settings for access to the Microphone.

"My Macbook Air" option makes no sense as I don't have a Macbook Air, this is a Macbook Pro M1 2021. That option ended up going away after a reinstall though, seemed like an odd glitch.

I don't understand what you mean by this path:

Settings > G-Force Toolbar Control > Allow Remote Control.

as I don't see an "allow remote control" option in my G-Force Settings.

It says it's connected to the Standalone and it doesn't give me an option to change it.

Additionally, as you can see in the video, the "Sprites & Particles" menu (and the other mini menu options there) can't be opened. Nothing happens now when I click them... they seem to grayed out.

But the Toolbar does control the Standalone if I press the "New randomly selected Sprite" etc, it updates visually. But no waveform influence.

I've also gone into the Standalone and clicked the "Reload Audio Sources" button and gone through all the different options. I can see Audio in my Mac Sound Settings coming through my Microphone, but G-Force doesn't get it.

I worked on this for a few hours with ChatGPT and it's stumped. One thing I noticed in this inquiry was that in Mac/Settings/Privacy & Security/Microphone... G-Force is not listed here. It's somehow not making the call for permissions to access the microphone?

Is there a way to debug what's going on here?
