Need help running WC on a second monitor

Post by mickey j »

Hi, I have windows 7 and use the "extend display" option to view WC on a second monitor by dragging the window to the second monitor. This works fine, HOWEVER, when I go fullscreen on my second monitor I cannot do anything on my main monitor without WC disappearing on the second monitor. So once again, I'll be playing music on my laptop with a media player, fire up the stand alone WC, drag to the second monitor, go fullscreen, bring my mouse pointer back to my main screen then if I click on anything I lose the WC on the second monitor. It is still present in the taskbar and if I click it it re-appears on the second monitor. I want to be able to keep it running while I do other stuff on my main monitor. This works fine with G-Force. Please Help!
Thanks
Mickey J

in order to do this you need to run your desktop in "duel view", extended and clone mode will cause whitecap to "black out" the main monitor while its in use as WC thinks there is only one screen.

Still Wondering ...

Post by mickey j »

Thanks for the response, however, even if I do things that way, I assume whatever I do on one screen will be happening on the second screen. In other words, I will not be able to mess with a track list on my main monitor and have WC running in full screen on the second monitor??? This is my goal. Hopefully someone knows how to edit the internal settings through the program files folder or app data folder to have it run fullscreen on a second monitor and allow me to do "other" things on the main monitor.

no you're wrong.

with extended view WC sees one large screen and some gets cut off making your monitor or tv useless. in clone mode WC will appear on both screens because the video card is cloning the main screen.

In dual view you have 2 separate screens or desk tops if you will, so you can run WC on your Tv and still control it from your monitor or visa versa.

you change these settings by going into your video card and setting up another screen but when you do this choose Dual View

WC has no internal settings that handle this on its own.

I have had both ATI and Nvidia video cards and they both offer Dual View.

I have no dual view option on my ati card or in my Windows 7 display settings, guess i'm screwed. I have a ati 4670 card on my laptop with catalyst control center. It just "reads" the display settings I choose under "display options" in Windows 7 and does not offer a dual mode. The "duplicate displays" option does what I described above, i.e. can't view WC on 2nd monitor and do something else on laptop monitor. I can drag WC to a 2nd monitor and still work on my laptop but I can't go fullscreen and still work on my laptop. bummer.

I am not sure but if this is the video card in your laptop it should support dual display as I understand it. its noted at the bottom of the specs.

maybe up dating your drivers will help.

if its the wrong card fill me in on the type of laptop and the exact series of video card you have.

Yeah, thats the card, almost, I have the 1gig ddr3 version. The problem is with Windows 7. I tried ultramon software, was encouraged, but it failed as well. It would place a seperate taskbar on the second monitor and I could drag Whitecap to the second monitor and it would show up in the taskbar on the second monitor. Clicked fullscreen, moved mouse back to laptop screen, clicked on something and bam! WC disappears on second monitor. The only way I see this working is getting WC to recognize only one monitor, the one it is on, it clearly can't do this, even with 3rd party software. If you look at a program such as R4 or Milkdrop, you can "assign" a monitor (1 or 2) to the fullscreen settings. In r4 it is easy, in Milkdrop (the winamp plugin) you need to go into Appdata folder and edit a text document, simple enough, you change a 1 to a 2. I was hoping for a similiar solution with WC. Thanks for trying to help. I'm going to get into the text docs and play around but could really use some help.

Secondly, is there anyone out there who can do what I'm trying in windows 7???

Here's an example of the code in Milkdrop

adapter_devicename_fullscreen=\\.\DISPLAY2
adapter_devicename_desktop=\\.\DISPLAY1
adapter_devicename_windowed=\\.\DISPLAY1

also, since I can do what I want with G-Force, it seems the code could be transfered to WC to get the same result, if not, oh well, waas worth a shot, I'll look elsewhere for visuals

found this utilty in the forums:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a two monitor system and you can't keep G-Force zoomed on the second monitor. So I wrote a program to do it for me. Feel free to download it and try it out.

This works for now. Still hoping for a "code" fix, I'm trying to find how g-force does it and hopefully apply it to WC (With some help, I'm no programmer, any edit I've ever done has been by following somebody elses instructions).
At least I can now have a quasi-fullscreen on a second monitor. The idea is to set up a projector at my house for parties and use my laptop to play music while WC or other visuals run on a second screen. I could do it but could not edit my playlists w/o whitecap stopping. Now I can but since it is a quasi-fullscreen I'm pretty sure it is not taking advantage of the max resolution I want since this is a fullscreen setting. So again, looking for a better solution but can get buy with this for now. Plus, I have 4 other programs I use all of which WILL run fullscreen on a second monitor while I work on the first. Funny WC is the only one that won't!

Thanks for all the responses, hoping for more
Mickey J
