G-Force Platinum/WhiteCap/Darkroom - Where is WC Standalone?

Post by O.g. »

Hi,

I just bought G-Force Platinum and downloaded WhiteCap and Darkroom as well, but in Darkroom am only able to select G-Force as the engine, not WhiteCap. And I've not been able to locate the WhiteCap standalone?

OSX 10.3.9

The latest Darkroom requires a version of WhiteCap that hasn't been released yet, 1.5 I believe. So until then (which I hope is soon) you can only use G-Force as the engine.

I don't belive there is a WhiteCap stand alone yet. Only a G-Force standalone, and screensaver—at least on the Mac platform.

To be honest, I haven't used SSD in a long time; so I can't be 100% sure whether it can handle WhiteCap at this point.

(Above issue answered; thx Willrob)

For some strange reason, the WC standalone can be found in your iTunes plugins folder (Library, iTunes). Or you can just do a simple Finder search.

I have no clue why; but it should be there. Maybe it's just that it isn't as "programatically" developed as G-Force, as it's looked upon as GF's long-neglected "older brother" (i.e. WhiteCap preceded the first public release of G-Force, but only by a little while IIRC).

No wonder I didn't know there was a WhiteCap standalone. Of course now that i know where to find it, I discover that it doesn't work. I get a black screen with nothing happening. Pressing the period (which should change the configs) does nothing. Nor does pressing H for help. This is version 4.7.4 of WhiteCap attempting to run on Mac OSX 10.4.3.

G-Force is great, but with the platinum package I didn't get any WC standalone, it's simply not there. I thought it came with the package, but perhaps not. Anyway, it would be cool to be able to use the WC engine with the standalone as well, but maybe that's something I need to wait for?

I was under the impression G-Force Gold came with the WC standalone, but Platinum doesn't?

There are two Library/iTunes folders (one in your user directoty and one in the main Library). Check both. It should be there is you have Platinum installed.

Maybe you'll need to place the standalone in the same folder as your other WC components?

We will soon release a WhiteCap Plus which will contain both a standalone and screensaver version of WhiteCap. If you have questions about the new release or if you are interested in being on our list of beta testers, please email support [at] soundspectrum.com (subject: WhiteCap Beta) and let us know.
