Firewall Settings to use G-Force Toolbar

Post by brown.ml »

I am running G-Force 4.3.2 Platinum on a 2011 iMac using OS 10.7.2 in the 64 bit mode and iTunes 10.5.1. I am also using Little Snitch 2.4.4, DoorStopX 2.4.4 firewall and Sophos 7.6.3 antivirus. G-Force functions normally, but i receive an error when attempting to open the G-Force Toolbar. Disabling the firewall allows the Toolbar to open and make changes. Obviously I need to open a port in the DoorStopX firewall to allow the TCP/IP connection between the sound card in the iMac and the Toolbar. Does anyone know which port or ports?

the port shouldnt matter, If you make an ecception then the firewall should automatically grant access.

other folks who had similar probs with the toolbar found that an apple program called bonjour stops the toolbar dead in its tracks when its installed along with other aplle progs.

check your comp for this app and disable or uninstall, its not a necessary program.

Thanks for the lead. I cannot switch off Bonjour because that would disable printing from my iPhone. However, I adjusted the UDP System Internal Services settings in DoorStopX to allow service to those on the subnet mask. That worked. Thanks again, juxtiphl.

Hello clarson099

How do I fix the G-Force Toolbar if the display fields are empty?

The G-Force visualizer and the G-Force Toolbar use the TCP/IP network protocol in order to communicate. If your computer blocks this connection (a typical security measure by firewall software), then the G-Force Toolbar will not be able connect to the G-Force visualizer. If the G-Force Toolbar can't connect to G-Force, then it cannot function (and all its menus and controls will be disabled). To fix this problem, you will need to review your firewall settings.

Configuring Windows Firewall. If you have Windows Firewall enabled (most WIndows users have this enabled), add G-Force to the list of exceptions. You can do this by selecting Start | Control Panel | Windows Firewall and then selecting the "Exceptions" tab which should allow you to enable/disable programs such as the G-Force Standalone and G-Force Toolbar.

Configuring Other Firewall Software. If you are running another software application such as Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm, or another such software firewall application, please ensure that G-Force is not being blocked in any way from using the TCP/IP connections.

When the Toolabr doesnt work but you have made the exception for the firewall then look for a program called bonjour. If you recently installed itunes or some other software this program could have been installed without your knowing about it.

Bonjour is an Apple program that comes bundled with a lot of softwares including some Windows and java.

This prog blocks the Toolbar and has been an issue for many since bonjour was created a few years ago. There are a lot of posts about the toolbar not lighting up. I found the solution to be either uninstalling, disabling or deleting the program outright as it is not really needed for any prog to run correctly.

Search your comp for Bonjour, if its there get rid of it and the toolbar will light up again.

Hi BTT

I am surprised that you dont remember this issue? A lot of people had posted about this same issue and Bonjour was always the culprit.

I dont know why Bonjour blocks G-force as it is supposed to make it easier for progs to communicate via TCP connections.

If I were you, I would explain this issue to SS and see if they can figure out why Bonjour does this.

Hello juxtiphi

I remember the Bonjour issue well. To the best of my knowledge SoundSpectrum have not been able to resolve the problem. I believe using the Toolbar with 32bit Windows works fine, but there is a problem with the 64bit version.
