Intermittent Slowdown

Hello ColinFox
There has to be something running on that machine to cause a slowdown when running G-Force. Have you checked Windows Task Manager for any unusual activity?. What is the name of your Anti-Virus program?. Do you use movies in G-Force?. What is the setting of your frames per second and by how much does this drop?
Regards BTT

I am running Microsoft Security Essentials for AV protection.
I have no idea how to run movies in g-force so... no.
On the g-force toolbar, the button for adjusting the framerate (text popup says: "Sets the desired/goal framerate" on mouseover) is at the max framerate.
60-65fps when running in a window... no slowdown detected interestingly... Looks fecking beautiful, runs fantastic! small window tho...
40-50fps when running 1680x1050 fullscreen on monitor; dropping to 18-23fps for approx. 2-5 seconds when slowing down...
35-45fps when running 1920x1080 fullscreen on plasma TV; dropping to 15-24fps for approx. 2-5 seconds also.
For the above, I did not manually change the framerate settings, g-force decides that I guess?
No unusual process activity as far as I can tell. Please take a look for yourself:

Just for testing, disable ALL invocations of any browsers, anti-virus protection, and best, (disable network adapter) disconnect from the internet. Using your own Sprites (backgrounds) has been an issue in the past, but seems to work okay(?) on 4.3... you can just turn them off for testing. Just for grins, turn verbose mode to FULL and see if you can correlate any specific event with the slowdown.
It is most likely some OTHER background task interfering at periodic intervals. (IMO) Apple software is worse than a virus on a PC.
( ??? Fuel.Service.exe, NisSrv.exe, VCDDaemon.exe, OSPPSVC.EXE, distnoted.exe, firefox.exe, AppleMobileDeviceService.exe ???)
4.3 DOES HAVE SOME (slowdown) ISSUES, but I don't suspect you are as picky as I would be to point them out. I get the smoothest operation using WinAmp on 4.3 (Standalone no longer works the best). If you are trying to capture the output (Fraps or Playclaw), you can run into a whole new set of issues.

So I've tried turning on verbose mode using code I found from another thread using teh google. Other than it being pretty cool to see what g-force is doing in the background I cannot correlate anything that would force my PC to drop the framerate for a few seconds.. I don't get why it is doing this
Is there a way to make g-force to run at a specific framerate all the time? Or would that break things?
This is just so confusing since WHY is this happening on my main computer and not on my laptop.
I don't get that it's my machine... that makes no sense since its a freaking quad-core system 2.2 GHz with 8 GB of OCZ high-performance RAM, and a fecking SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4890 2GB GDDR5 RAM PCI-E card!!!
My system may not be a brand new top of the line system, but it certainly beats the tits off my laptop!

Hello ColinFox
1) Uninstall G-Force and Winamp, delete all folders associated with both programs found in various locations on your computer. Restart your PC.
2) Download and install Winamp:-
Make sure you do not allow Winamp to check for updates at start-up.
Do not allow Winamp to report usage statistics.
3) Restart your PC.
4) Download and install G-Force:-
Do not allow GF to check for updates.
Do not allow GF to report usage statistics.
The above has solved many a problem, let's hope it will help you. Let us know if this has helped.

I have been running the standaolne with no problems I even run a video window over Gf so I can watch a live act with GF blooming from the sides of the video window ( which in this case is borderless) BS player does this.jerohm wrote:

GF looks awesome with no problems.
I think that the slowdowns are caused by specific configs, some configs seem to just sit there for a while and then take off no matter how strong I have the audio responce set. other configs seem way to busy. There must be a way to make all configs react with the same intensity.
Hello juxtiphi
You shouldn't really be seeing too much of a difference regarding reactivity with WaveShapes since SoundSpectrum introduced this in November 2011:-
After much hard work, SoundSpectrum is proud to release G-Force 4.3, featuring audio auto-normalization. Published by SoundSpectrum
The loading of WaveShape configs would not slow G-Force down.

GF makes an incredibly Galiant[SIC] (realtime adjusting) effort to abide to the requested FPS... to different degrees of success. I have used Fraps, Playclaw, Bandicam, and Dxtory to capture output and each react (more, or less, negatively) with GF in a subtle way. Placing personal Sprites on a ram disk (QSoft) helps. The resolution (pixel count) will make a difference. The default desired FPS rate of GF is 33fps and seems to be the most stable. The GPU is barely used with GF, so most problems are going to be CPU, ISR, or disk related. I have rolled back to 4.2, but I am not convinced some of the issues I was experiencing are now necessarily 4.3 related... I DO think there ARE NEW WS transition fluidity issues introduced in 4.3... but not as bad as I first suspected. I used to exclusively use Virtual Cable, but have since moved to WinAMP which, for ME, provides the absolute BEST presentation... Likewise, Fraps and Bandicam cause the least negative issues from a purely implementation point of view... not that either capture is perfect. For unstable FPS, I would shrink the window size @ the default 33 FPS until I would have ~100% perfect display... and raise it until problems start occurring...
I have a i7-2720m and and can maintain 1280x720 pretty good, but still see some variation (-3/+2). @1600 x 900 it is NOT bad, but not good enough to capture. It is MY feeling, even with multicore, the BASE clock rate better be at least 2G WITHOUT any turbo acceleration. Whatever means Fraps and Bandicam use to lock the FPS is EXCEPTIONAL.

It was a fresh install (see first post) and I was having these issues... what good is re-installing?
I actually got the processes down to 45 and still this slowdown, I've tried dropping the fullscreen resolution, same issue. I tried turning off flow field unions, same issue. I tried dropping the fullscreen resolution & turning off flow field unions, same issue. Checked and re-checked that all video drivers were up to date, that the g-force software is up to date, I am seriously stumped here. I also reset the preferences back to the factory default settings for g-force and still the framerate drop.

Did you completely uninstall both G-Force and Winamp, remove all associated folders, then download and install a fresh version of G-Force and Winamp?. It is important that you download fresh copies of both.BTT wrote:Hello ColinFox

Did you remove all the Apple associated software as recommended by Jerhomn?
If you have done all that and the problem persists then I am at a loss as to what is causing G-Force to slow down occasionally and, am not able to help you apart from give you a link to SounSpectrum support.

They will either reply here on the forum or contact you direct in a few days. Sorry we could not help you more.
