All,
First off, this is some cool bit of code, but I am having trouble.
Here is my situation. I installed Gold on a laptop, works great. Tried to install it on a desktop, doesn't work.
The G-Force will not start either from Mediaplayer, Musicmatch or standalone. In standalone I get a message that g-force has performed an illeagal operation and is shutting down. the message is quite lengthy I can post it if someone asks, as I think this is a simple porblem, ihope posting will be unessary.
Both machines are running XP, the desktop is a 450MHz AMD K6 w/256MB, ATI 3D Rage LT Pro, SoundBlaster Live! 24bit all sitting on a Asus P5A mother board.
G-Force doesn't seem to get very far in the load, as it throws the error allmost immedately.
Any thoughts are welcome.
Robert

Error Siganture Update
XP Reports the following stuff at the error screen.
AppName:g-force.exe (duh)
AppVer:0.0.0.0 (hmm, thought it is 2.7.1?)
ModName:g-force.exe (again, duh)
ModVer: 0.0.0.0
Offset:00004a3a
I am guessing this is the start of a hardware call that yeilded an unexpected result.
What I need to know is, if it is PCI/AGP or what.
I am very suspect of the motherboard. It is of an early '99 vintage and seems to have problems with the integrated USB ports.
I just need to know what to buy. The most I want to spen is ~$100 to fix this pile. Otherwise I need to save up for a new box.
Happy Holidays,
Robert

Hey Robert,
I have G-Force running under XP Pro SP2 on 2 laptops and a desktop, all with Pentium processors of different vintages and 3 different graphics cards and have never had any type of problem installing and running 22 different standard or Gold versions, starting with 2.6.2 and running through 2.7.2, the latest, including a number of beta versions.
I would suggest uninstalling G-Force and deleting anything vaguely associated with it, including Prefs files and directories, downloading the latest version, and installing G-Force from scratch.
I would also recommend that you not put another penny into your granddaddy computer and put the money toward a new one. You can get a pretty good Dell or other top ranked PC for $500-600 (a lot more power than grandpa), and that $100 is a prettty good start toward that new one.
Take care.

Toby,
Thanks for the reply.
I think I figured out what is going on, G-Force will not run on an AMD processor.
I did do all the things you suggested, but still nogo for the AMD board.
I did not heed your advice about the upgrading though, but I found a nice comprimise. It should arrive this week.
I'll keep you posted.
Robert

Hi Robert,
Not sure if an AMD processor can be generally to blame.
I currently own two AMD (Athlon) based machines and the latest Gold version runs splendidly on both.
Their spec is somewhat higher than your machine, as I assembled both earlier this year with 1ghz processors and a gig of ram.
Perhaps just the age is to blame?

You are running a "Both machines are running XP, the desktop is a 450MHz AMD K6 w/256MB, ATI 3D Rage LT Pro, SoundBlaster Live! 24bit all sitting on a Asus P5A mother board. "
the processoe is an old one and a K6. Ummh I am not sure but maybe the K6 range does not have MMX capabilities I think GF needs MMX stuff to run now.

Yeah, my best guess is an incompatibilty with the AMD K6.
