2 Colormap Creation Hints (Just Discovered)!

Post by JayPro »

If you've just created a scheme with an accompanying (dot)png swatch (or just the swatch), you can edit said swatch to make it look *radically* different.

You say you don't like the background color?

Well, for Mac users, if you have Preview installed, open it and open the (dot)png swatch in the application. All you have to do is hit the command key that invokes the Horizontal Flip, then save it as whatever name you wish.

For Windows users, this process should work for whatever image viewer is bundled/used with your OS version.

Anyway, this general procedure should make the color at the opposite end of the original swatch your background hue.

Also: (This is common knowledge to some; but a revelation for me) You will notice, when you open the Colormap folder, that certain schemes will be represented by a (dot)png file only. These can be given a corresponding config (dot)txt file with "t-function" values added to create a dynamic palette (see Bizarro Color Wheel and Nice Acid Gap, among others, for reference).

Soon I'm gonna do an experiment with a photo (dot)jpg to see if this can be extrapolated to those sorts of files. If, however, photos can be ".png'ized", all the easier, perhaps. We shall see. Updates to come.
