I've just upgraded to GF gold for winamp and must say it's absolutely awesome.
I wonder if you have any plans to develop a version with 3d accelerated graphics, will this be when you release the next version with openGL or is it planned for 'Project X' as this would truely bring GF into the next dimension.

i've been wondering about that myself. there has been no 'news page' update for over two months, and that hasn't happened in a very long time. i keep hoping that it is because they are working on something 3D.

anyone care to comment on this speculation? is there any hope for 3D acceleration in the future of Geforce?

Well andy did post this list of other projects they are working on in another topic

There's definitely some truth here. As a small company, it's very tough for us to head Windows development for SoundSpectrum Darkroom when we have all the following projects in the hopper:

- WhiteCap 5 (in alpha now, soon to be in beta)
- G-Force 3.1 (now in beta)
- G-Force Toolbar for Mac OS X (currently in development; will be released with GF 3.1)
- Project Nitrogen (currently in R&D)
- Project Gallium (scheduled after Nitrogen)
- Project Mercury (G-Force goes to OpenGL--concurrent w/ Nitrogen).


so as you can see full 3d support looks set for the Mercury project.
I'll come to bed once i've seen everything in G-Force.

Orbstah,

thanks for that info. if you don't mind answering some more questions:

1) any major changes in 3.1 besides the OSX toolbar?

2) what will 'Nitrogen' bring to g-force, aside from the concurrent GL support?

3) who comes up with your project names? :)

I cannot see existing GF directly benefiting from OpenGL code. There would be a case for more improved waveshapes that could appear onto the flowfields but again those would have to be designed from scratch again.

However new projects will benefit more from OPenGl/3d accelerated stuff.

2 months for an update is not very long at all.

which got me thinking. i agree that OGL wouldn't make a huge difference in the look of the current g-force.

are you suggesting that there will be a whole new visualization product that will use 3D programming? that would be cool. it would be nice to have the choice to keep the exisiting g-force format while also getting a 3D visualization app.

my comment about 2 months for an update wasn't made in complaint. i was merely pointing out that over the last two years, there has never before been a period of greater than two months during which no news was posted on the news page.
