I was just reading the letterbox post on the new "How To" forum and it reminded me of a problem that I have experienced with every version I have loaded from 2.7.3 through 3.5. Every time I installed a new version the maxx value was set to 10000 (ten thousand) not 1000 ( one thousand). with earlier versions this caused a significant performance hit (although not so much after the Hyper Thread fix).
Has anyone else noticed this, or do I have a waco computer that likes to add zeros to constant arguments. (I hope it dosn't do that when I pay bills online!)
P.S.
Andy,
I love 3.5. Great Job!!
Letter Box Default maxx/maxy values

Re: Letter Box Default maxx/maxy values
What you're seeing is that we changed the factory values of those for different releases. The 3.5 factory values were changed to set maxx to be 10000 ("no limit") and maxy to be 800 for media players. For standalone, both values are 10000 ("no limit") by default. Both of these values are easily set via the toolbar. Perhaps I should change the standalone default to 800 as well?DaveB wrote:I was just reading the letterbox post on the new "How To" forum and it reminded me of a problem that I have experienced with every version I have loaded from 2.7.3 through 3.5. Re: Letter Box Default maxx/maxy values
I've thought about things and I've changed it back so that the default standalone frame limit size is 800 (from 10000/"no limit") and I've changed boot.txt and reuploaded platinum. Thanks for writing on this to get me thinking about it.andy55 wrote:What you're seeing is that we changed the factory values of those for different releases. Andy,
Thanks for your reply. I think that changing the default maxx to something closer to "normal" screen resolution is a good decision, especially from a new user ease-of-use perspective. I totally "get it " that some people like to tweak and personalize the program. However, there are probably a lot more (like myself) that just want to listen to the music and stare at the pretty pictures without having to look at the manual. Also, optimising the default settings for the best performance out of the box is usually a good idea. It's all about customer satisfaction.
Please, keep up the good work.

DaveB
