Quicktime required?

Post by JoeHendrix »

I downloaded the most recent version of G-Force Gold, and was enjoying the heck out of it last night. Then, in the middle of a song, a message in the far upper left hand corner came up (g-force continued to run just fine) that said something to the effect that it couldn't find some Quicktime file in order to run the something sprite. The message stayed up for about 20 seconds, then left, but didn't seem to have an effect on g-force.

Do I need to download and install Quicktime in order to get the full-benefit of G-force? What am I missing if I don't install Quicktime?

G-Force relies on QuickTime to display background visuals (images and/or video - any QuickTime supported file format) and this will indeed enhance your G-Force visuals. Below is a link to download the "standalone" verison of QuickTime (it is otherwise bundled with iTunes).

Also, if you are interested in further customizing your back ground visuals ("sprites") you can either add a folder of images via the G-Force Toolbar (see the advanced preferences) or you can simply copy and paste your own images into the G-Force Sprites folder: C:\Program Files\SoundSpectrum\G-Force\Sprites (for Mac, use finder to search for your G-Force folder).

Thanks. I load it tonight.

I've been leary of loading ANY software on my MCE machine, since MCE seems so sensitive to changes. But... G-Force rules, and has become a major part of my "MCE Experience".

G-Force has bmp, jpg, and png support built-in, so if you try to feed it any image (or any video) formats other than that and dont' have QuickTime installed, G-Force won't be able to load it.

I gues, not only does Quicktime need to be installed, but it also needs to be running (at least in the toolbar, where I guess allows it to be running in the background). I had installed Quicktime as an application, but stopped it from putting itself in the toobar. When I would run G-Force I was still getting the Quictime error message. Last night, I went into the Quictime settings, so that Quicktime would put itself in the toolbar. I haven't tested this to see if that error will go away, but I'm fairly confident that it will.

I just double checked my system that has G-force installed and it has no quick time installed but plays all the stuff I've added without that message appearing. (got about 15 mg of sprites in it) weird..

spent some time last night playing around with the program folder and discovered if you delete the logo text as well as the logo that quicktime error pops up its nasty head. otherwise I still do not have quicktime installed and my jpgs show up fine. :-k :-k

I'm still getting that Quicktime error message even after ensuring that Quicktime was showing up in the task tray. I just went through all of the Sprites that I had added and made sure there were no movies, and changed all of the GIFs into JPEGs, hoping that will solve the error message.

I'll keep you informed on how that goes.

I didn't notice any Quicktime error, but I did notice a "G-Force: Logo" error.

Not sure where that came from or why?

More specifically now, the error I get is " G-Force: Error loading logo".

Anyone know why I would be getting this error, and how to fix it?
