Concerns Before Purchase

Post by Leaf »

Hi,

I'm primarily interested in the stand alone version.
I've run the winamp plugin and tried an older version of G Force<don't ask>with every intension of buying a full version.

I plan to run 2 instances of winamp 5.24 on secondary monitor and have Gforce run in full screen on primary.
Anyway these are my concerns

1.CPU useage in Full screen goes thru the roof with one instance of winamp with 2 mouse disappears behind fullscreen Does hardware accel fix this?

2. I'm very familiar with milkdrop Is G Force as easy to configure and use? I know that's a bit unfair but if others have used both I'd appreciate an opinion!

I guess those are the main things.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

1. To my knowledge the GForce even with openGL hardware acceleration is still heavily CPU dependant. The hardware acceleration only - i think - applies to the waveshapes and particles the "biggest" amount of computer work, in most cases, is the flowfields and these - i think- are still using the CPU. So there is still a large CPU overhead.
Andy please correct me if I am wrong.

2. What do you mean by configure and use?

For selecting different configs in GF it is porb ably even easier than MilKDrop as it has it's GUI.

the older version of GF had an issue where the mouse would go behind the desktop, that has been fixed.

also GF has a great tool bar which letts you pretty much do what ever you want with GF.

winamp itself can be very cpu intensive depending on the skin you use.

if you want to run more than one maybe you should look into upgrading your memory capacity and your processor.

get the GF platimun upgrade you wont be sorry.

I have used milk drop its pretty cool but GF goes way beyond.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Plan is to get a new PC just for Music and Viz. Matbe have 2 PC's one for Music player one for Viz.

I know I need to read up on GF more.

But some more questions.

1.Can you insert text to the stand alone viz on the fly?

2. Can song title info be inserted alla milkdrop? IE Text fades into viz versus a text bar .

3. Any network controls? Not a huge deal since can use vnc.

4.Can you use multiple instances of stand alone GF?

5. Most inportantly, Can Plat version be used commercially with no extra fees?

Thanks again,
Leaf

1. if you mean type words on the screen while GF is running, no

2. GF shows the song title as the song starts but since I dont wish to see it as I know what I'm listening to I turn it off. you can affect the title behavior via the tool bar.

3. dont know.

4. I can start 2 instinces but its far too cpu intensive to do .

5. there is a special licence for commercial uses.
