[v.3.0.1 — Mac OS X 10.4.2 — Screensaver] Possible probl

Post by Turms »

Hi,

I have installed G-Force and the screensaver (platinium) under Mac OS X 10.4.2 and iTunes 5.0.
Computer is an iMac G5 2GHz

This module plays well on itunes, but the screensaver does not seems to take the iTunes audio as input. The lines are flat. I do not know how to change audio input for this screensaver.

I have tried the standalone also, but the choice is only between some generators and audio inputs. No way to use iTunes output or audio outputs, and the T keystroke crashes the standalone player.

Maybe this is normal and the screensaver is not using iTunes output like the module inside iTunes.

It is possible to use any Mac OS X screensaver as a desktop background, and so do I with G-Force, but if it does not recognize any audio, especialy iTunes one, it is useless…

Thanks you for your read, advices and experiences.

There is a Preferences file for the screensaver.

Look for it in your general Preferences library and you'll see a thing called "A_In" and *I think* you have to set it to 1.

Try that and let us know what you get.

I have the G-Force folder inside ~/Library/Preferences

I have edited the preferences file for the screensaver, and it changes nothing with 1 (it was 0 before editing).
I have also tried to set A_In to -1 like it is inside the G-Force iTunes preferences file, and 2 and 3 but the results for these is an error output in the screen saying a bad audio input.

Should the screensaver behave exactly like the iTunes visual plugin or like the standalone application (that have not iTunes output as an option for audio inputs if I have understand, but any input devices from the computer, like internal mic, iSight, line-in, etc…) ?

Have you tried simply deleting the Prefs file and re-eexperimenting with the Numbers for A_In?

The sonic behavior of the Saver should act independently of the iTunes plugin. This expplains why A_In is a strcitly Saver-based pref.

1) I have deleted the prefs.

2) I have launched iTunes

3) I have launched the screensaver (default pref A-In is -2)
Nothing

4) Changed screensaver prefs to -1
Effects are in sync with the iSight audio input

5) Changed screensaver prefs to 0
The inputs seems to be a generator

6) Changed screensaver prefs to 1
Also a generator

7) Changed screensaver prefs to 2
Nothing

-3 and before are invalid audio inputs.
3 and after are invalid audio inputs.

Still no input that corresponds to iTunes.
For now I can use the "-1" that is the iSight audio input that listens to my speakers that output iTunes, but it is a complex way to solve something that should be simple.

On my Mac (also OSX10.4.2 and G-Force 3.01) I don't see that the screensaver is responding to iTunes playing in the background. I had never tried that combination before, since I can simply have iTunes play in full screen mode and get the same effect. I wonder if the screensaver is even meant to respond to that audio source. Isn't it meant to respond to line-in, as from a CD player, radio, microphone etc.?

What's the latest build for Tiger? 10.4.3? (I'm still on Panther 10.3.9)

If so, you may need to upgrade the OS. (<<Pls Disregard)

EDIT: Willrob has a point. The saver is meant to respond to line-in and internal mike only (or are these one and the same?). It doesn't work in cojunction w/ iTunes.

I have the latest update : 10.4.2

10.4.3 is not a public release, only a developer release, and I am not an ADC Premium member.

Do you think the problem comes from the OS ? the next update should fix it ?

It's my understanding that Andy keeps the SoundSpectrum products up to date more or less concurrently with each subsequent public release of the Mac OS.

So maybe the next time you can do a system update, give that a go and see what happens when you try to re-run GF.
