G-Force Standalone

Post by Ethan Abides »

Hi everybody! I'm a proud new owner of G-Force Platinum and I have some questions.

I want to use G-Force Standalone with iTunes. I can't figure out how to tell it to use iTunes.

I don't want to use G-Force through the iTunes interface because it won't save my settings, and it malfunctions. Basically, I can run the G-Force from iTunes, but then if I exit the visualizer, I can't open it again unless I close and restart iTunes. This malfunction occurs for all visualizers, not just G-Force. This is not ideal, I just want to bypass the whole thing and just use the Standalone app. But iTunes doesn't appear as an option in the list of audio input sources. How can I tell the standalone app to use iTunes?

Please help! Thanks, Ethan

Hi Ethan (and thanks BTT!)

Can you provide your OS and iTunes version?

If you are on Windows 10 or 11, I suspect the issue is forthcoming support from our side on restoring support for iTunes ever since Apple rebranded it all to Apple music and all that.

I couldn't find you info for you in our sales database so I presume you are using the trial version? If you want to take this further, please open a ticket at ss support so that way we can track the status of your question and you're notified on a response:

Hi Andy, thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

I am not on the trial version. The standalone app only comes with G-Force Platinum, which is what I bought yesterday.

It is licensed to Ethan Greer. That's me. Hello. :)

Running G-Force 5.9.1 standalone.

Windows version info:
Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 23H2
Installed on ‎7/‎23/‎2024
OS build 22631.4169
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1034.0

iTunes version:
12.13.3.2

I'm not interested in using the G-Force visualizer in iTunes. That's a lost cause as far as I'm concerned, because even the built-in iTunes visualizers don't work properly. I blame Apple for that. I want to use the G-Force standalone app. I was using the microphone audio input (selected in the G-Force settings), and just playing music through my speakers and letting the microphone pick it up. But now that isn't working either, and I don't know why. I've rebooted, I've made sure the microphone works in other apps.

I can't figure out a way to tell G-Force standalone to use iTunes as its Audio Input Source. The option simply doesn't appear on the list. What does appear on the list is:

Sound Generator (Fluid)
Sound Generator (High Energy)
Sound Generator (Chill)
Microphone Array (Intel Smart Sound Technology for Digital Microphones)
Stereo Out (SoundSpectrum Audio Cable)

None of these produce desirable results. The microphone array was working yesterday, but is no longer working. I changed nothing; it just stopped working.

The sound generator options make the wave shapes move, but it's just random, and not terribly interesting.

Honestly, if I could just get the microphone to work again, I'd be pretty pleased. This has been very frustrating. Thanks for the help!

In my experience, G-Force Standalone has no built-in option to receive audio from other applications (such as iTunes), however, that doesn't mean it can't be done. You may have to make use of external programs or mess around with your computer's settings to create an audio output source which outputs the audio of your other applications. If you can do that, the rest is fairly straightforward.

Standalone should be able to see your soundcard as it does mine.

I think it may depend on the type of sound card in your computer, or maybe just the O.S.

Something has happened. iTunes took a complete crap on me. My library got screwed and for whatever reason, I couldn't restore it. This has happened before, and I did all the same things, except it didn't work this time. ??? So now I've switched to MusicBee, which I like better than iTunes anyway.

Still the same issue with G-Force standalone, can't figure out how to get it to know about MusicBee.

Cool, thanks, I am aware that the support ticket is an option. I replied to Andy's requests for information immediately here in this thread, I didn't realize he doesn't monitor the forums (which is fine! I'm sure he's busy 8) ). I haven't opened a support ticket yet because I was distracted with my iTunes going belly up and switching my music collection to an entirely new music library program, which has taken several days. Now that that's all in hand, I am again turning my attention to the G-Force. I am currently investigating the issue with G-Force standalone on my own. I will open a support ticket when I am ready to do so; in the meantime, I hope it's alright to discuss the issue with other forum members.

Hello Ethan Abides

Yeah, you continue to post on the forum, let's hope someone can come up with a solution. It must be very frustrating for you, and I hope your issue is soon resolved.

Andy is as you say very busy, monitoring the forum is my job (not always easy with the spammers)

Honestly, I'm looking forward to my investigation, it's an opportunity to learn new stuff. G-Force is so cool and worth the effort. So yeah, no frustration here. Not yet, anyway. :) If I do get frustrated, I've got the option of opening a support ticket. Life is an adventure. :)

 Progress! If I set MusicBee (my music app I replaced iTunes with) to use the SoundSpectrum Audio Cable for its output device in the Windows 11 sound settings, and set the Audio input in G-Force standalone to the SoundSpectrum Audio Cable, G-Force reacts to the music! So pretty.

Sadly, the sound doesn't go out to my speakers at the same time. So I can either see the G-Force goodness, or I can hear the music. I can't currently do both at the same time. Anybody got any ideas? Does anybody know a way to get a program to output to two output devices simultaneously? That's the next thing I'm looking into. I will report back any findings.
