Feedback Requested: Platinum products will now include VAC

Post by andy55 »

Hi team!

The new add on the radar we'd love feedback on is that we're prospectively bundling VAC with our Platinum products. Virtual Audio Cable is a virtual audio passthru device driver for Windows. Basically, in Standalone for Windows, you select VAC for audio input in the settings menu, and then in your Sound control panel you select the system audio output to that device (instead of your speaker system). Good news is that now you can get audio response from any player into Standalone! HOWEVER, you need to patch the VAC input BACK to your speaker system or else you'll never be able to LISTEN to your music:

Control Panels > Sound > Recording (tab) > Line 1 (Properties) > Listen (tab) > Playback through this device: (Popup menu)

The above is for Windows 7, and it would help us a lot our if a well-spoken Windows 10 users could play with VAC for a while and then write up and polish instructions that we could turn into a FAQ item.

We'd also like feedback on if this should be installed by default (the GF 561 installer DOES enable it by default). My concern is that some people may get alarmed or confused that the installer is installing a driver (Windows pops up a confirmation window when a driver install is attempted). This does only apply to Platinum users, so they could always write support or inquire here to learn more. Thoughts?

G'day Andy,

Regarding the VAC which is pre-selected by default upon installation with the most recent version (but can be manually de-selected / unchecked in the box) and attempts to install after one prompt, won't install on Windows 10 -
I use W10 Pro 64-bit because Windows itself checks to see if the WDM Audio Driver is properly signed, and because it isn't officially signed / validated installation of the VAC fails and is impossible for every user.

Obviously requires another minor update to G-Force to fix the non-install glitch before attempting to roll the VAC onto SS's other Platinum licensed products,

1. Make the VAC license digitally signed so it passes integrity, signature and any other Win 10 authentications.

2A. Turn auto-install by default to 'off' for VAC, or place it at the top of the list so it is easily visible.

2B. Create a separate install screen modal explaining VAC and let the user decide with a large YES NO option

Thanks,

Alf :)
