G-Force Installation: MC18 on a portable drive
Hi. My name is Barry and I have been using G-Force in combo with JRiver Media Center for 8 years mostly in my cab. I also have it installed at home of course. A day without G-Force is like a day without clothing. Anyway, For reasons to lengthly to go into here, I had to install Media Center (MC18) on a portable drive for use on my home desktop. When I reinstalled G-Force MC was detected in the installation process but does not show up when one uses MC as normal. I tried installing G-Force right in the same folder that the player is in and unchecking all other players (eg Real Player Winamp etc) except MC. Nothing. Any thoughts??
Hello brothermorphine
Try uninstalling J River Media Centre, and G-Force including any/all folders. In XP the G-Force folder will be in C/Program Files/SoundSpectrum folder, and in C/Documents and Settings/Application Data (make sure your PC shows hidden files/folders). Re-start the PC then do a fresh install of J River Media Centre, when complete re-start the PC. Now install G-Force, select JRMC then re-start again. As a matter of interest which version of G-Force are you using?

Hey Happy Thanksgiving by the way. Thank you for the kind advice. This is Windows 7 I am using. To see the (partial) saga of my attempts to reinstall Media Center (and why I am unwilling or just superstitious at this point about uninstall/reinstall of MC) please read this thread: h t t p ://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=75544.0
You see alos the guys that saved my data from the diseased hard disc threw it all on disk F, with the main (boot up) disk being C. I don't know the relevance of this but let me continue anyway. There, on disk F, I just learned are various copies of G-Force. I will attempt to destroy them and try another re-install. Stand by. Okay I just killed every sound spectrum item. I am going to flush my recyk bin and restart, but I am not ready to kill MC just yet.
I'll let you know.
Another thought and I am sure I could read up and get the answer, (but I am thinking aloud at this point) is to use G-Force Standalone, which did install OK apparently.

Well, no luck. I'll look at standalone or maybe just take the jriver guy's advice and dump this windows 7, by trying an upgrade to windows 8 (Microsoft website $40) mostly because I am too lazy to haul this desktop back to the computer shoppe, and am a bit ticked off at them for the buggy OS and the two week wait time.
By the way I am using G-Force 4.4.
Thanks again for the help.

Hello brothermorphine
In my opinion your troubles are probably being caused by Windows 7 not being installed on Drive 'C'. I do not know anything about J River Media Centre, but G-Force automatically installs to Drive 'C'.
My advice to you would be to take the PC back to the shop, ask them to format and install Windows on Drive 'C', then install JRMC and G-Force onto that drive. With various versions of G-Force and JRMC on the same drive I believe that would cause problems anyway, I dread to think what effect that has had on the registry. When you come to install G-Force I would suggest you install version 4.3.2.
