GForce Performance Issues

I've been using G-Force with JRMC for many years, in fact ever since the first day JRMC support was provided so it's a shame that I've finally been forced to give it up.
No matter what I tried GF made my HTPC run very slow. I reverted to JRMC's own built in Visualisation Studio and am pleasantly surprised at how good it is. The visuals are nice and I don't notice any performance degridation at all. It's also easy to customise with cover art, track text etc.
Having only just paid again for the latest GF it's a shame I wasted my money as I simply can't use it.
As a life long GF fan I'm a little disappointed there is no way to get it working or no support for slower machines. In fact, although my PC is not dual core and a few years old I dont really think it's very low spec. It worked great with previous GF versions even before I added loads more RAM.
I'm also disappointed there doesn't seem to be any GF developers hanging around to help in this forum.

RE: slower machines
Whether you like it or not, the world is going to push you towards newer, more powerful, technological solutions... even if you don't think you need, or will use them.
I have been using DSL for more than a decade, and just recently, I have come to the sad conclusion that I might be out growing its capabilities. It MEETS 90% on MY needs, but I can tell more and more websites are ASSUMING high(er) bandwidth, as things take longer and longer to fully load. YouTube HD is a no go at DSL speeds. Netflix streaming still works pretty good at VHS level resolutions. It is just a matter of time, and you will be wore down and give in.
Multiple cores ARE (or soon to be) the ASSUMED standard. On the other hand, it is no secret that I have been somewhat underwhelmed with the first generation i-core laptops. Whether is was hardware implementation, or the (lack of) availability of software that fully exploited the hardware capabilities, FOR ME, it just didn't represent much of a leap over the original dual core designs.
I can attest that the second generation (Sandy Bridge) represents a quantum leap in performance...that YOU CAN BET will only be one-upped by something 'shinier' in the (near) future. That said, CPU horsepower/design is no longer the weakest link... BANDWIDTH is ... whether to the Internet or your hard drive.
No matter how appealing the notion, no man is an island, an if you expect to participate and interact as time marches on, there has to be a certain amount of caving in, and conforming to the consensus
... however I could understand if you want to wait until AFTER Dec 21, 2012

Well I cannot justify replacing all of my HTPC. One option I could investigate is using my Sony Vaio Laptop instead as this is a dual core T6600 @ 2.20 Ghz with 4GB RAM. So I guess that would perform better.
It has an ATI Mobility Radeon 4570 with HDMI out. Do you reckon that would perform ok? Is there such thing as an external USB video card that I could hook up to my Laptop when I want to run G-Force on my TV?
One thing that would not be up to scratch is the sound card. I have a Soundblaster X-Fi in my HTPC connected via Digital Out to my Denon Amp and which sounds great but MP3s played on my Laptop through the built in Realtek sound card sound rubbish. I would have thought there would be an affordable external USB sound card I could plug in to my Laptop but I've not found anything.
Is it feasible to replace my HTPC by adding some peripherals to my Laptop to make it perform in terms of Graphics & Sound?

Ok, maybe I'm nearing a solution. This external USB soundcard...

looks like it will do the trick with my laptop and having tried running GF on it there is no stuttering.
With the HDMI port on the laptop I can run GF on the LCD TV in a full screen detached window whilst JRMC runs on the laptop display.

I'm not sure what spec you guys are using for your machines running G-Force but since I'm about to switch from a Dinosaur PC built around 10 years ago to using my laptop (when my new soundcard arrives) I'm keen to see how the laptop spec compares to what others are using.
Just to summarise it's a dual core T6600 @ 2.20 Ghz with 4GB RAM with an ATI Mobility Radeon 4570 with HDMI out.
Would you consider this fast enough to unlock all the power of GF? If not is it the Graphics Card that's holding it back?
