Suggestions for Improvement in G-Force

Post by JayPro »

This isn't much; but maybe they can be looked into at some point.

1. As I've finally gotten the idea of how Sprite Flags work, perhaps there can be a way to change the "command center" of Flag control from the (Default) doc to the toolbar. I got this idea in the midst of wondering why---quite frankly---we need things like FInt, SInt, PInt and WInt (to name but a few IMO arcane settings...plus their equally AIMO arcane logarithms!) in a separate Prefs file when we now have intuitive controls for many of these in the Toolbar.
As with the Config Frequency controls in the above-mentioned Toolbar, I can visualize a set of slide controls manipulable in various combinations whereby the "flagging" controls are engineered by the user.

2. At this point, honestly, I'm a bit puzzled and disheartened at the absence of a slide control for Union frequency. This IMO should be a priority.

3. I'll save details for what I wish to say for this point until I post to the G-F main board an overdue update for a simple trick I discovered that can indeed make sprites react to sonic input. More info forthcoming. Whatever the case, I'll use/edit this post here to suggest "feasibilities" in terms of user options, preferably (read: ideally) within the toolbar.

Stay tuned.

EDIT: Juxtiphi and I are currently co-involved in an experiment to integrate sound input into Sprites. A side venture of this involves an explanation I offered him into how Flags work (cf. the (Default) doc in the Sprites folder).

Pursuant to this, I would inquire into the possibility of integrating aspects of Sprite Flagging options into the toolbar, such as sizing, cropping, Aspc maintenance, masking, blending etc..

Also, if this embryonic "Audio-Sprite" experiment of mine is successful, maybe there can be a way to offer via the Toolbar an on/off option for it. I'm thinking along these lines:
As the "AudioSprite" option on, responsiveness (i.e. EPen="function of s") will be engineered directly in function of the pending WaveShape's Pen-to-Sound parameter, if there is one.
If not--again, assuming that this AudioSprite option is activated--there must be a default. I would use the Pen statement in the Parkening Power WaveShape as such.

I wish you could explain that in english

can you splain it for dummies

I take it you are not talking about the slider for the flowfield unions, colormaps and such? if so what would this slider actuall control? :?

I'm writing this under the presupposition that the Toolbar for Windows differs in more than one major respect from the Mac version. I'm unsure as to whether in the Windows version there is a Union "frequency" control panel as well as a simple "Unions on/off radio button" you can simply toggle and be done with it.

All I'm saying is since many of the config controls in a lot of the Prefs files are now accounted for in the toolbar, I can maybe start hoping that what I now see are redundancies will be soon eliminated. As additional features are hopefully integrated as practicality dictates, the toolbar will become the locus, focus and nexus of G-Force "ground control".

Now...

Sprite Flags control how the sprite actually appears on the screen. They allow for many interesting levels of interplay with the rest of the total picture. The (Default) doc in the Sprites folder will explain this better than I can...my manner of explanation was geared toward Andy and others in the ::drumroll:: SoundSpectrum Programming Pantheon.

I essentially wish to see if it's possible at all broaden Toolbar flexibility to include controls over how the user can "flag" sprites. Again, see the Flags section of the (Default) doc.

BTW, FInt, PInt, SInt and WInt are Pref doc controls that manage the interval, i.e. how long, each effect stays on screen.
