I, too bought WC5 without checking it out very thoroughly.

I also have a bunch of machines around the house (no macs though), none of which it runs properly on.

Beats me how there are people out there who say it's running fine for them...

It seems to be taking a while to sort out this problem...

Oh well...at least we have the beautiful GForce to play with in JR Media Center still...
why is it hard for you to believe that whitecap works for some and not others? If you look around the forums you'll see that there are people having problems with softskies but not GF or WC and others have problems with GF but SS or WC works fine for them, in a perfect world all computers would be exactly the same and all programs would run with no problems.

truth is GF,WC,and SS are always evolving to work with all platforms and players but its not easy as players and platforms are always changing aswell.

you get a year of free updates with your purchase so maybe the next update will fix the problems for you, and if it does would you still be surprised you see there are some it still wont work for?

I give Soundspectrum the benefit of the doubt that these problems will be fixed because in the 2 years since I joined the forum I have seen proof that Andy works hard to get everyone's problems fixed

Easy on there old stick!

I'm not saying that It's hard for me to believe that it works for some and not others...I should have phrased that better. I understand perfectly well about PCs and their endless configurations and associated issues. I was a sysadmin for years (windows, UNIX, comms etc.) That's why I'm no longer doing that as a job...just got so sick of the whole biz...anyways...

What I was really getting at was that there are people with the same card etc who seem to beworking fine...ie. what is it about our respective configs that should affect Whitecap so?

I too usually give companies the benefit of the doubt. Due to my previous experience with SoundSpectrum, I bought it anyway, as I do have faith in their ability to fix bugs (I've owned GF for about 4 years, and bought SS when it was released - although I won't renew it - it just doesn't "do it" for me the same way GF and WC do).

Don't be so defensive...I'm not bashing SoundSpectrum...
Cheers

Yes you did tell me you liked my avatar...feel free to pinch it...I did...I can't remember from where, but I'd just given up smoking (just over two years ago now)...and it seemed to fit...

For What It's Worth;

Methinks SoundSpectrum is at a crossroads of sorts.
On the one hand, they've been busier than ever trying to keep both Macsters and Windows-users at relative parity with each other, especially as has been relative to G-Force and SoftSkies.
Now what they've been trying to do is get the company's "mother" visualization (WhiteCap) to not only catch up with current VectorC engine/iMac specs, but also, as I said before, functional for Windows users too. So it's as if with the development of WhiteCap they've been trying to do two things at once.
All that said, small wonder IMO that WC users seem to be in the pickle they're in.

Plus with the new OS for Mac out, things might only get all the more frustrating...especially for those of us who can't afford at present to buy an up-to-date iMac...unless a certain one amongst said "those of us" haggles his brother-in-law who works at the local Apple Store for a nice hefty discount. ;) ;) ;)

Fixed....

5.0.3 - 02 November 2007

* Config enabled/disabled state now persists.
* The V-Bar now uses Direct3D (making it more compatible).
* Fixed J. River Media Center issue where a Direct3D error was causing WhiteCap to report that insufficient hardware was available.
* Fixed issue where WMP would spontaneously exit from fullscreen mode.
* Added workaround for nasty Mac OS X OpenGL memory leak triggered by using non-whole number line width values (see Apple radar 5545171).
* Added a track text size setting in the UI menu.
