This is very very strange. G-Force Platinum 3.0.1. Recently observed anomaly.
I've modified various tuning options in PREFERENCES (WINAMP).TXT to my liking. Obviously this edit is done when Winamp (2.95) is not running or even open, and naturally the edited file is saved.
Then I open Winamp, play something, and close it. I then look at PREFERENCES (WINAMP).TXT and some (but not all) of my modifications have reverted back to their installation default values, rather than remaining as I had just modified them. Other modifications remain changed exactly as I had wanted.
So... why do some of these items always seem to get reinstalled" to be their original default values?
I suggest one possible explanation, in that these particular items which are acting strangely were not expressed using the same formula in previous versions of G-Force. In days gone by, these items were "simpler" but in the latest version(s) of G-Force the formula has become more complex. Might that be relevant? Or are these particular G-Force objects handled uniquely?
It is very very curious that the other modifications I've made which DO "stick" are of this "simpler" formulaic expression style. And I've never had this mysterious symptom before, in all the years of using G-Force. Modifications to preferences stay modified... as obviously they should.
Here are the "problem" items, with my modified values, which always seem to revert back to their defaults:
modified: WInt="1 + ( 10 + rnd( 10 ) ) * 1.000000"
default: WInt="1 + ( 15 + rnd( 20 ) ) * 1.000000"
previous: WInt="10 + rnd( 10 )"
modified: FInt="1 + ( 12 + rnd( 12 ) ) * 1.000000"
default: FInt="1 + ( 20 + rnd( 30 ) ) * 1.000000"
previous: FInt="12 + rnd( 12 )"
modified: CInt="1 + ( 8 + rnd( 10 ) ) * 1.000000"
default: CInt="1 + ( 15 + rnd( 30 ) ) * 1.000000"
previous: CInt="8 + rnd( 10 )"
modified: FPS=34
default: FPS=33
In contrast, the following modifications DO "stick" and once I change them remain changed. They do NOT revert back to their installation defaults every time I run Winamp:
modified: WMor="5 + rnd( 10 )"
default: WMor="5 + rnd( 16 )"
modified: FMor="3 + rnd( 8 )"
default: FMor="6 + rnd( 9 )"
modified: CMor="2 + rnd( 10 )"
default: CMor="4 + rnd( 12 )"
modified: SDur="10 + rnd( 10 )"
default: SDur="20 + rnd( 30 )"
modified: SScl=1.915686
default: SScl=1
modified: LBst=2
default: LBst=1
modified: TFnt="Comic Sans MS"
default: TFnt="MS Shell Dlg"
Any ideas?
Certain changed items in PREFERENCES always change back!
More strangeness...
I have two machines, which are built essentially the same as far as Windows and application software is concerned but which obviously have physical differences.
On one machine (long standing XP and application software) I have this problem and cannot seem to figure out why. On the other machine (XP reinstalled and all application software reinstalled about 3 weeks ago) I do not have the problem. My customized preferences are retained in their entirety, with no selective items reverted back to installation defaults.
On the problem machine (faster, bigger, two monitors) I have the toolbar activated so that I can identify what is running in G-Force as I watch it. On the non-problem machine (slower, smaller, one monitor) I do not.
I suppose there could be some "corruption" in the Windows registry of the problem machine regarding G-Force (it took a few iterations of software to finally get the SoundSpectrum and G-Force folders placed in the desired locations, and perhaps there is some residual garbage left over). Certainly the newly re-built XP machine would not reflect any such corruption.
But the selective restoration of just the selected items I named to their default values, while leaving all the other customization alone... well that is very strange, and could only have been accomplished at initialization time by G-Force EXE itself if it decided it needed to.

Well... it looks like the toolbar is the problem (or explanation, anyway).dsperber wrote:On the problem machine (faster, bigger, two monitors) I have the toolbar activated so that I can identify what is running in G-Force as I watch it. Tonight I decided I would deactivate the toolbar because of a screen real estate issue. After doing this I then closed Winamp/G-Force and re-customized preferences yet again, and then re-opened the program and started playing something.
I immediately noticed that the behavior and performance of G-Force looked it should have looked had my customization "stuck". I then closed Winamp/G-Force and checked preferences. And sure enough, my customization values were STILL PRESENT! They had not been reverted to the defaults as they had before.
So, I must conclude that it is the use of the toolbar which is somehow and for some reason reverting the customized values for WInt, FInt, CInt, and FPS back to their installation default values everytime toolbar starts. Deactivate toolbar, and these four customized values remain customized.
Go figure.

Please email me at andy *at* soundspectrum.com and I'll set you up with a copy of the 3.1 beta, which should address these problems (and if not, we'll work together to fix them).
thanks,

Toolbar in 3.50 now resets AT LEAST SEVEN Preferences values
Andy,
This problem STILL persists even with the latest v3.50 of G-Force Platinum.
Only now it's EVEN WORSE than it was back in October 2005 when I first reported this problem, coincident with the introduction of v3.01.
Now, with 3.50, there are [at least] SEVEN Preferences values which always get reset to the following initial values if Toolbar is activated:
WInt="1 + ( 20 + rnd( 10 ) ) * 1.050000"
PInt="1 + ( .75 + rnd( .5 ) ) * 98.963093"
FInt="1 + ( 25 + rnd( 15 ) ) * 1.050000"
PDur="2 + ( .5 + rnd( 1 ) ) * 36.934332"
CInt="1 + ( 25 + rnd( 10 ) ) * 1.050000"
FPS=33
RScl=1
I say "at least seven" because these seven items are identifiable as being forced re-set since I have them customized to other values. And as soon as I activate Toolbar they change back to the above. It actually may be that there are still other items which I haven't customized and hence don't know that they, too, would be forced re-set.
But for sure, the above seven items are tied to hard-coding in Toolbar and can never be retained in Preferences as modified by me. They will ALWAYS be set to the above every time Toolbar is started.
Can you please fix this? Please?
Thanks.
