Windows 7

Post by wootalyzer »

Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to make a detailed bug report at the moment, but all in all, WMP 12 on Windows 7 eats G-Force for breakfast. If you can manage to even select G-Force from the visualizations menu (sometimes you can't even click on it), it simply shows a corrupt white screen with some black lines. Then, you can't even switch back to a working visualization. All visualizations are dead until you restart WMP.

Most likely, it's a glitch with wmp 12 visualization backward compatibility, and will be fixed eventually by Microsoft, but I was just letting you know.

And I'm definitely not complaining, I know G-Force isn't designed to work for beta media players ;)

Funnily enough it works if you do an upgrade and then install over the top of the prior g-force installation.

Originally I upgraded my Vista x64 SP2beta to Windows 7 x64 Beta 1 and g-force ran perfectly fine after installing the 390beta in the 32bit version of Media Player 12.

I then tried a full format and fresh install of Windows 7 x64 Beta 1 and I now also get the corrupt white screen and can't select it in the visualization menu.

I can only assume that when installing on Windows 7 certain key files aren't put in the right places or registry entries aren't where they should be, which is why it worked in an upgrade, and not a fresh install.

I hope it gets sorted out soon, as i've found I didn't know how much I missed g-force until I couldn't see it running =p

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the directory names. In the WMP directory g-force installs to C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\VisualiZations , whereas all the default plugins appear to be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\VisualiSations ?

On my machine, WMP has ONLY a VisualiZations folder

On a completely unrelated note, WMP appears to have two SEPERATE installations (one in Program Files (x86) and one in the 64-bit "Program Files"), weird :? ). Anyways, I imagine on Vista 64-bit it was the same way, and on Vista, it worked.

Edit: I wonder if this is only a 64-bit problem? I'll try it on one of my 32-bit machines when I get home tonight. (If nobody else posts by then...)

Yeah i fiddled around with the registry changing Z's to S's and vice versa and it didn't make any difference.

You are correct in your assumption that Vista x64 has both a 32bit and 64bit versions of Media Player 11.

I'm sure it is a 64-bit problem, but I think it's it's related to some missing registry entries. Otherwise I can't explain why it would work with an upgrade from vista x64 to windows 7 x64, and not a fresh install of windows 7 x64.

Still unable to successfully run G-Force on Windows 7... Have just downloaded version 3.9 after reading Ixionx's last post, but I am still unable to pull it up in WMP.

While it appears in the list of visualisations, the WMP background is just black. If you select any other visualisation you must restart WMP for it to work, and you cannot re-select it without reinstalling (not that there is any point in reinstalling as it doesn't work).

I'll eagerly watch this thread...

Got it working.

Post by JohnM »

Initial install of G-Force 390 had some problems.
What will happen is it will install, then on running WMP, right clicking to select a plug-in, menu items would not appear for the G-Force plug-in.

So it could not be started.

I went weeks without G-Force.
I then decided to install it again and hope it would help.

I got it working. =)

I did NOT uninstall the previous install.
I had WMP open during the 2nd install until it requested to close WMP.

There is a small delay starting the plug-in.
Double clicking to go full screen will result in a delay.
Trying to double click out of full screen will result in it switching to windowed, and then back to full screen.

Use the button on the bottom right.

Full screen FPS performance is much worse on Windows 7.

while I am not sure about this I would suggest that since windows 7 is still beta Andy may need more time to make GF compatible with windows 7.

Full screen mode not available listening to Internet Radio

Post by gdandy »

G-Force seems to work well for me with Windows 7 although I cannot use full screen mode when listening to internet radio (Radio Paradise) in windows media player. The option shows as disabled. I am able to use full screen mode when listening to cds and mp3s.

I just want to report this so it can be fixed in a future release. Thanks, we love G-Force!

for starters, windows 7 is already on build 7068. i am using wmp with g-force with no issues (clean install). To answer your other question, both windows 7 x64 and vista x64 both ship with two versions of wmp. one is the default 32 bit version and the other is the 64 bit version. note: g-force is only designed to work with the 32 bit media players. It has nothing to do with the directory names as the app installs correctly to the 32 bit version from what i have seen. the most important thing is to make sure you are using the most up to date version of g-force. its also fairly easy to find newer builds of win7 on the internet as well.

I have seen several threads requesting that the release a 64 bit version but they havent yet. i personally would love to have a 64 bit version of it as i prefer to use the 64 bit version as decoding appears to me to be faster.

about the full screen radio, i have not tested it yet so cannot comment on that
