G-Force non-responsive in certain modes

Running 3.5.5 standalone with toolbar on G5 Duocore 2.3 under OS 10.4.7.

Problem #1: No responsiveness to audio input when changing input level from toolbar. All waveshapes act "dead" (except for the ones that have built in movement although those too show no audio "life"). System shows plenty of audio level via sound control panel.

Problem #2: Switched over to Standalone to control it directly using keyboard shortcuts rather than toolbar. App won't take any keyboard input at all (whether audio, waveshape changes, etc.)

I restarted both apps, no help, restarted the machine, no help, removed the pref file from the user folder, and not only did that not help but G-Force began stuttering badly, frame rates - around 2fps (and this should have been after G-Force rebuilt its pref file).

you can ajust the response level with the plus + and Minus - keys,

and you can ajust the preamp level with the quote keys [ ].

try increasing the levels until you see what you feel is syncronised movement within GF.
