G-Force 3.54 and JR Media Center 11.1.185 - Help

Post by CVIII »

I just renewed my G-Force Platinum license and upgraded to the newest build of JRiver Media Center. G-Force worked with the previous version of MC just fine. I installed the latest version - 11.1.185 - and it no longer works with G-Force. It works with all visualizations but G-Force. Media Center goes out like a light when G-Force starts.
I've talked to JRiver and they are at a loss. I seem to be the only one having the problem.
I suspect the problem has something to do with Windows Media Player because of two things:
1 - When I installed the latest MC build, it required a reboot. That never happens unless there is a Windows Media Player change.
2 - After the first instance of MC shutting down at G-Force start I reinstalled G-Force 3.54 and got an error message that G-Force_WMP.dll could not be installed because it was in use.
I renamed the file (I could rename but not delete) and didn't get the error message again but WMP was not active at the time. After subsequent uninstall - reinstall of Media Center, G-Force and Windows Media Player I have not gotten that message again but G-Force still aborts Media Center. It works with WMP but not MC.

Has anyone encountered this before or have ANY idea what it might be?

Update: I posted this in the General Forums when I see that I should have posted it here. I see that I am NOT the only one with this problem.

MC11.1.184 & G-force 3.54

Post by bostoncarputerman »

If it's any encouragement I run both of these together and they run as seamlessly as any previous combination of the two. But jeez I don't have any suggestions other than another uninstall/reinstall doing MC first. Good luck.

It seems to be a rare problem. If all else fails, I'll try to go back a couple of restore points. Hopefully, something else will turn up.

11.1.185 must be a beta version, b/c my updater in JRMC only has an update available for 11.1.178. Does G-Force work on 11.1.178 on your system?

It did. It also worked on 11.1.184, which is the build from May 15.
11.1.185 is from May 24. When 11.1.185 installed, I had to reboot to finish.
That has only happened once before (I've been a "new build junkie" since Media Jukebox Version 5) and that was a Windows Media thing.

Once I had a Windows Media / JR Media Center conflict that I caused by not knowing the difference between Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center. I had to go back a restore point to fix it. I hate doing that.

I thought to try the wise ones first.

I'm not blaming anybody's application as I seem to be quite alone in this. In fact, your latest build worked fine with the next to last Media Center build so I know it's not you. Nobody else at the Media Center Forum has this problem so I know it's not JRiver. And it's not this build due to that and the fact that I can't go back to a previous build that did work. It doesn't work any more.

Thanks for you interest. If nothing else comes up, I'm going to wait for MC's next build and if that doesn't do it, I'll go the restore point route. If THAT doesn't work, I'll miss you in Media Center but I'll see you in Standalone and Windows Media Player.

New MC didn't do the trick. Neither did a System Restore Point. ](*,)

I am having this too.

When playing music, after a while the MC11 user interface will lock up. Music will still be playing, but the screen won't refresh. G-Force and the various now playing indicators will be frozen.

No problem with G-Force turned off (ie not the current visualization).

I have tried a lot of players !! inculding JRmc The players i experienced the most probs with were these,

JR, WMP10, Itunes really sucked {very hard to unuinstall} , xmplay.

those progs did'nt like my comp at all!! I've treid many others aswell.

Thats why I stick with winamp very easy , plenty of features for those who want them.

I like to try all the new players that come down the line too, but so far the best have been winamp ,foobar, and {the dead in the water development wise} Sonique.

Sonique could have been so good!!

I am having this problem too with the latest versions of MC 11.1.189 and GF 3.5.5

Very frustrating.

A work around is to run GF in stand alone mode and use MC as the sound input.

I sent information to developer and have not heard back.

I too have been having this problem with G-Force 3.55 and the latest MC11.1 build (11.1.191 as of today). It also occurred with 11.1.188 (which is the current "stable" build of MC11).

It only is happening on one of my 3 machines (a Dell Inspiron notebook). All the others seem to play fine with MC.

CV... You said it was fixed for you on the Interact thread. Any word on how?

Glynor,

I don't think I would say it was fixed. Actually, I've given up.

Also, I've been using Version 12 since the beta started and there is not any GForce support for that version yet. (JimH went public about it today so I can tell about it)

I use the stand-alone sometimes but that's less than satisfactory.
To be honest, I don't think this is a GForce problem.

For one thing, the standalone works and there is no problem with any other player supported by GForce.

Also, the problem started when a download of MC 11.185 went WAY too fast and then the install required a restart. This almost never happens and I've been a Media Center (formerly Jukebox) New-build junkie since Version 5.

I uninstalled everything and reinstalled but still the shutdown.

I even went back a few restore points and redownloaded and reinstalled both programs (no weird downloads and no restarting this time) but still no joy.
I have no idea what the problem is and am tired of beating my head against a brick wall.

As has been said in both boards, if the problem can't be recreated, it can't be solved.

I'm sticking with MC12. It's a sweet application. Maybe the GForce support for that will bring GForce relief.

Sorry CV... I thought it was you over at Interact, but it turns out it was RobOK who got it fixed. Check this thread at Interact:

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=34926.0

Looks like he got a new version of G-Force (version 3.5.6 b1) from Andy that fixed the problem.

Since a number of us appear to be experiencing this issue, any word on when a fix will be available for us to try?

Speaking of which, I have G-Force running just fine on my MC12 install. Search in the MC12 Beta forum for the post called "Wishlist - G-Force" started by gpvillamil. Doof did the legwork and got it working. I posted a .REG file that made it easier to install (though you do still need to have installed G-Force on a working copy of MC11 for it to work -- so I bet it won't solve your G-Force problems CV).

EDIT -- I just noticed that the G-Force build available here is now 3.5.6. Possibly the new version will fix the problem for us! Will test and post back...

3.5.6 from the main site is working fine with Media Center 12.0.53. I will try it tonight on the problem system listed above.
