Mic/input not working on G-force independant program

Post by Andy S »

I am using a soundmax sound card and whenever I try to use the g-force for microphone input it doesn't seem to detect any sound at all. I have tried adjusting the preamp and the gain tabs to no avail. I have tried them up to 10+ each but beyond that the graphical sound streams seem to go out of the picture (which defeats the point).

I have reinstalled the drivers and I KNOW that the microphone input is working because I have recorded and played back sound in the program "audacity". It also works with the inter-game chat program "teamspeak". Any kind of way to solve this?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

(btw I own the platinum edition)

Your System Information
OS Version: Windows 2000, service pack 3
Version of G-Force: 3
Version of your media player: N/A
Other system information: Soundmax audio driver, SIS bios

Detailed Description of Bug:
Microphone not working in Geforce independant window despite large increases in Gain + preamp.

Description of How to Replicate Bug:
It could just be a system unique problem. I have shift-A'd through most of the different data-input channels to no avail. In comparison with other sound mimics (liquid, high energy etc) there is an obvious lack of sound.

Any replies greatly appreciated.

OK so this is how it looks -

*Fresh boot*
I successfully recorded into Audacity + Windows sound recorder. Tried to use it in G-force but to no avail. Reverted back to audacity to find mic no longer working
*reboot*
Went to Audacity, mic not working. Removed sound device (Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio) from device manager.
*reboot*
Selected driver and installed.
*reboot*
Tried mic in audacity, it was working. Went into G-force to find it not working. Back to audacity and mic isn't working
*reboot*
Mic still not working in either audacity or G-force. Removed sound device from device manager, installed driver.
*reboot*
Mic currently working in both audacity and windows sound recorder. It would seem that as soon as G-force (independant window) is opened (it still works fine in iTunes before and after) it seems to cut off the mic from the computer. The sound still works despite this.

Is there some feature of Audacity that disables sound? Do line-in feeds work for everybody else?

Thanks in advance

You didn't mention this, but I need to make sure... How are you selecting the mic as input? Via the toolbar? Via SHIFT A? You are selecting the mic as input in G-Force, right?

The reason you may not be seeing input in your other apps after you run GF is that GF is selected to a different audio source (again, did you select the correct audio input inside of GF?). When you're not seeing audio in your apps, check that stuff is set properly in your Recording Volume Control Panel (Volume Control > Options > Properties > Recording).

I select the mic using shift-a whilst it is windowed. I just scrolled through the different options in G-force and watched the sliders move and the select button change from each one - so at least I know that it is working. This probably implies that this is some sort of driver related issue, so I'm downloading a completely different set right now. I'll just update, reset, and tell you what I found.

Cheers for helping though!

Andy (this is gonna get confusing...)

Hurrah! Success! Eureka!

The older drivers seemed to have fixed the problem, although now my computer is complaining of having no ADI codecs...

Erm....anybody know how to install ADI codecs?

Sorry to triple post (this really gets on people nerves I know) but I just can't edit whilst a guest and, even though the time on this board has been a pleasure, I don't plan on staying.

OK, so reinstalled sound drivers which got rid of the ADI codec problem, G-force works, I can hear everything, Mic works in everything, and a small deer just galloped outside my window. Life is good.

Seriously though, thanks for your posts. If it wasn't for this forum, I would have probably given up halfway through!
