No Toolbar control over G-Force 3.01 Platinium

Post by dabrown »

Upgraded to GF 3.01 Platinium and when I launch GF standalone the Toolbar comes up but the selections for changing sprites and colormaps are blank. Under Toolbar preferences it does not recognize any instance of GF running. Tried an uninstall and reinstall but no change.

Any ideas??

Thanks,

seem to remeber having that problem a while back.

have you made sure all other instances of G-Force are stopped ?
no other music players runnig in the background?

Andy said he'd patched it a while back. In one f theold betas

Maybe post this in the bug Reports page with your full systems specs
and a detailed discription.

Wonder how many people still use the stand alone and maybe its just been overlooked.
I'll come to bed once i've seen everything in G-Force.

Yes, checked for other instances of GF or other media players running. I believe 3.01 is the first version this has happened with. Same thing happens with I start the toolbar without the standalone running and instead use the v-bar. The menus to change sprites and colormaps are empty and clicking the arrows to cycle them does nothing.

Thanks for the suggestions and any others welcome - wish I had kept the earlier betas for version 3.

If using zonealarm make sure it isn,t blocking g-force or toolbar. Have seen this sevral times.

Good suggestion, but no I don't have Zonealarm. Can't think of any other system changes, except for video drivers. Now using Nvidia 78.03 and same thing happens with 77.72 WHQL. It's like the connection is broken between the toolbar and the standalone GF.

Thanks,

Do the other controls - flowfeilds, waveshapes, etc contain any data?

Do the keyboard controls work to change to the next one (e.g.. colourmaps pressing Q,w,etc)?

What are your system specs?

Does it work within a media player like Winamp?

Does the 3.1 beta work?

No the controls are blank on the toolbar and on the drop down menus for particles, visualizations and detected instances. But the checkboxs for under toolbar preferences and themes work.

Keyboard commands work for the standalone GF but nothing for the toolbar.

Had no problem with any of the betas.

Have to check with other media players. I believe the GF visualizations part works fine, it's just the toolbar that doesn't connect with GF. The toolbar can also stop and start the vbar but still empty menus and no controls over maps, sprites, etc.

System specs:
P4 3.0 GHZ
1.5 GB Ram
Intel 850 EMV2 Motherboard
BFG Nvidia 6800 Ultra Video card
SB Audigy
3 Western Digital 250 GB Drives
Lastest drivers, etc.

Please keep the suggestions coming and thanks,

Mem,
You were right, when I shut off WinXP firewall the toolbar works perfectly.

My question is now under WinXP SP1 how can I keep the firewall active and still allow access for GF and the Toolbar. Not sure what TCP or UDP ports they need access to.

Any help greatly appreciated,

SP1 not sure but under SP2, you go to control panel then firewall then exceptions tab and allow toolbar and gforce. Maybe be the same on SP1. Let me know....

Similar under SP1. Under Control Panel Network than advanced but it wants a TCP or UDP port address for the exceptionand this is where I'm lost.

If I block it i'm getting port address off 127.0.0.1 port 55755 for G-Force.
And 127.0.0.1 port 5334 for toolbar.
and a dns of 209.18.34.38 Which I'm pretty sure is to check for any updates to G.Force.

Try and let me know sounds correct because 127.0.0.1 is a loopback port to the pc> But depending on yours and if networked it may be your pc or router
ip address?

Good luck
Michael

Not sure how you determined all that - which ports and DNS settings. Here is what I tried and it "seems to be working" but have hadn't a chance to test it after a reboot as I'm away from the computer all weekend.

Went to Control Panel then Network Connections and choose my network. Then Properties and Advanced. Then I enabled the WinXP firewall and choose settings. There were already a bunch of exceptions for msmsgs and so I noted one of the port addresses for msmsgs. Then created an exception for GF Standalone, specified the name of my computer on the network, and entered the next consecutive port address from the one msmsgs was using. I entered this number for both TCP and UDP addresses. Then I did the same thing with the next consecutive address number for GF Toolbar.

The Toolbar seemed to work even after having the firewall enabled. Doesn't appear to need a reboot but I'll know whether it's working for sure upon the next startup this coming week.

I love to know how you got exactly what port addresses and DNS settings they were using. Without your help I wouldn't have got this far. Totally appreciate it!!
