Sprites on a Mac - huh?

Post by DaleB »

I wanted to incorporate some jpg's into G-Force. I'm on a Mac G5. I put the JPG's in the sprites folder. I removed all the other sprites. I see no evidence that my jpgs are being used.

Question #1: When I go to the G-Force Toolbar, the top menu says "Searching for G-Force...". Is that normal??? Does this mean it can't find the program or other resources?

Question #2: Most of the controls in the G-Force Toolbar are grayed out. The drop down menus for Theme, WaveShape, ColorMap, and FlowField all say "None Available" in grayed out type. On the right side, there are six icons. The bottom two work (V-bar, web launcher), the top four are grayed out. Why are all these controls grayed out?

Question #3: In the Sprites and Particles section, there is a bin where the sprites would presumably be named. There are no sprites in the bin (even though there are JPG's in the sprites folder). For a few seconds after a visualization, I did notice the name of one of my sprites in this bin, but it completely disappeared seconds later. Huh?

Question #4: Is there an ideal size for sprites or JPG's?

Basically, sprites aren't working. Anybody able to help?

Okay, apparently it takes about ten minutes before it finally displays one of my jpg's. So it is indeed loading. I guess I need to figure out how to reduce the time spent waiting for the sprite jpg to display itself. (I'd still like answers to some of the questions above... if anyone knows.)

The computer I'm running G-Force on has access to the net. But I only just bought the Gold package yesterday, so maybe it takes a day or two to be fully functional with them.

Um... why does it need to call home?

Does it do it just once in a while, or every time?

every time
This is actually incorrect. All SoundSpectrum products validate the license code once, at install time, when you enter it into the license code box. More on that here:

Every time you run the product thereafter, it does not "call home." By default, every 2 weeks, a product will check whether there is an update available. This can be made shorter, longer, or altogether turned off. But the update check has nothing to do with the license code. More on that here:

As for the toolbar, it will search for a local instance of G-Force running and try to connect to it via TCP/IP. So, if a firewall or security software blocks this attempt, the toolbar won't connect and the fields in it will be blank. More on that here:

Any Mac users here that can alert me to how to change my system settings to allow the Toolbar to communicate via TCP/IP? I'm on a Mac, and don't use Norton, Symantec, or other 3rd party firewall software.

i'm also interested to know how to solve the toolbar problem.

The troubleshooting regarding the empty toolbar is not enough and does not solve the problem.

I'm on Mac, no firewall activated, all entering connections are allowed.
